Im a kiwi living in Morocco, I saw you guys when filming in Marrakech I was standing on the side of he road waiting for a bus, when i saw the macan driving past I was waving my arms around in the arm like a small child, great one X Car!!!

Drove both already. My sister in law got the Evoque last year and my best friend just got the Macan (Diesel) and all I can say is that the Evoque has nothing against the macan. Plus, the Macan is selling a LOT here in the Dominican Republic. a LOT!

Love this car so much I bought one and now vlog about it. Almost went with an Evoque because of looks but after test driving both I realized the evoque was extremely under powered and did not have enough power to be a mid size SUV. The Macan S, GTS and Turbi variants instead are extremely faster than the evoque counter part making you feel a true Sports compact SUV that in my opinion is the best handling in its class and there is nothing I’ve test driven in its price or range that can outclass it.

Walker was a good driver, movie star or not. So was the other guy (who he just so happened to meet at a track) the CGT is known for knife edge handling. Porsche admited it themselves! The wheel base is too long for the width. It's like trying to drive an old 911. Understeer, understeer and then OMG spinout. That is not how a car should handle.

If I get a Macan will I need to switch to snow tires when I want to go to the snow or will the stock tires do fine? I love this car saw it at the LA auto show, will probably get one in 5 years or so. Perfect family car but for now I do not have a family and will enjoy the M4 :)

The Macan is a great crossover, hardly an SUV but a fantastic vehicle. I own a 991 4S and this little Porsche is very similar in driving attributes, but three feet higher off the ground. My wife loves driving it as a daily driver to work.

Both the Macan S and Turbo use the same 3.6 litre twin-turbo engine. The Turbo model simply turns up the boost to extract another 100 horsepower. You're basically asked to pay $10,000 for a software tweak.

I see a lot of doubt regarding its off-road capabilities. If it's anything like its big brother, the Cayenne, then it sure as hell is plenty capable. My Cayenne has done so well here in the Colorado winters. What's off-roading to you guys? And yes, you can have the best of both worlds. From the shops to the red-light drag races, the Turbo is perfect. Finally, if you were to choose the Evoque over this, you'd be visiting the dealership shop very frequently. Porsche was rated the safest and most reliable car brand in the world not too long ago.

True story: visited Porsche dealership last year and that's where I met the Macan first time, in person. Asked the salesman "A smaller Cayenne?" Guy says "Not at all. This is rather a 4 seater sportscar than a small Cayenne. Hints are: 918 wheel, 3D stops and the rims. You'll never see a Cayenne with something like that."

We have a Q5 TDI and a Macan. My dad has an Evoque. We considered the Evoque, but in comparison with the Q5. The Macan is well beyond either in terms of handling, steering, road response, cabin noise, refinement, etc. The Macan feels like another category of car, not SUV-like in any way.

Well after just spending 3 days at Barber Motorsports Park running the Macan against our competitors cars on the race track, The only vehicle in the mix that broke down continually was the Evoque, The GLK 350, Audi SQ5, BMW X3 all handled the rigors of track work with nothing more than shagged tires. The Evoque on the other hand was the least well executed design of the group and suffered many issues going into gear after robust driving, that being said the Evoque has one of the best off road set ups in class, that being said most people will not be off roading their Evoque. Macan #1 Audi#2 BMW#3 GLK 350 #$! Evoque a rightfully deserved #5.

Evoque is a nice car and has great lines, yet what is the quality like? Judging from history I would always choose the Porsche, one gets dependability, sports car looks and performance and great resale value. I would suggest to check the sales numbers, Macan versus Evoque. In terms of off road capability, really? Get serious, 99% of us urban cowboys never, ever takes this vehicle or an Evoque off road. The SUV design provides great ride, 4 wheel drive, especially handy in climates with wintery conditions, good looks and occasional can pull a boat trailer. I purchased a Macan S recently and other cars I looked just didn’t have the features, beautifully finished cabin and performance. FYI, I looked at Cadillac XT5, Mercedes GLC and BMW X5.

To answer one or two people that want to know why Porsche isn't using their flat engines in their SUV's it's mainly because of torque. The torque band is much higher in their flat engines which is not something you want in an SUV where you want your torque at much lower RPMs.

+Lolly Pop Evoque higher off the ground, most suitable for off roads. Both fuel efficient.... really comes down to styling preference imo and if you want the faster of the two.....go with Macan. It also has superior traction. However both are great city cars.....I prefer styling of the evoque.

Looks better than the Cayenne, but still pretty ugly. The Evoque looks way better. It looks like some futuristic moon buggy thing. But I don't really like any of this kind of car. They seem pretty pointless to me. I can see why they're popular, but if I was looking for what they're supposed to offer in a car, I'd go for something totally different.

The Evoque is a small 4-cylinder SUV, that stands for luxury, elegance and serious off-road capability. I agree the Porsche Macan is an incredible all-around SUV, but at 4.7m, it isn't a city SUV anymore. Another detail is the bland styling. The F-pace will be the JLR direct competition for the Macan, with more emphasis in driving dynamics, 4.7m and bigger engines.

Ok, this is coming from a BMW 335i sedan owner (f30). I think the material quality in the 3 series is a little below the Porsche's. Porsche generally builds very solid vehicles with lots of tech, which is why they're usually more expensive than competitors. My 2013 3 series also has the occasional rattle and squeak and the use of plastic is excessive. I also think the Macan looks ten times sportier and aggressive than the 3 series touring or sedan. The leather options offer leather wrapped dash and the layout of the cabin looks like an airplane cockpit. I haven't driven the Macan so I can't tell you about handling, but I'm just judging based off of looks and quality. I love my 335i but it's just not comparable to the Macan. They're in different leagues. I see the 3 series as more of a practical and fun car while the Macan feels more like a premium small SUV for people with a family. In the end, the 335i comes with optional 6 speed manual so it'll always win in my book. I'd only get a Macan if I got a salary increase and 2 kids.

F31 335 xi owner here, after I test drive macan.. I kinda regret going for 335.. Don't get me wrong, I love bmw. Just that when you compare build quality between macan and 335... There is a huge gap between them. How it drives? That trans is amazingly fast( which I used to think bmw 8spd is the best of both worlds) and plus the more capable off road capability? It's not like you need them, but def good to have. The prices are not that far away from 335 either!

richie s For the same performance, we are looking at Macan S. starting 50k, with Navi+Bluetooth+active damper+20inch wheels+comfort access.. etc basically all you need, my config is around 60k MSRP, plus I added M performance stuff to my 335, so the price is the same. Macan Turbo is consider exotic with 400 bhp lol

Flyingphoenix113 is spot on. It is not an SUV. It's a CUV, built on VW's MLB platform which is their large sedan platform. Also the RR Evoque is a CUV as well and not a SUV. It is on the LR- MS platform which is really a Ford EUCD platform which is a sedan/ MPV platform.

kraenk12 Size doesn't matter for making it a CUV or an SUV. SUV: a vehicle that utilizes body over frame, using a light truck frame. A CUV is uni- body utilizing a sedan's platform. Can be modified to make them have ground clearance for off-road. This means the Cayenne,Macan, Audi Q7, the new Ford Explorer, Subaru Outback, Ford Edge, Lexus RX line, RR Evoque, Mercedes M, GLK, and R class to just name several are all CUV's because they all utilize uni-body structure and use a sedan platform.

A lot of this stuff is about image and “what your cars says about you”. Sadly most if not all Porsches carry a “trying very hard to be someone” atmosphere. If you’re asked what you own and you say a Porsche … there are, well, smirks and glances away. The RRE is just quite good taste. And often beautiful.

great review as always, but I've always been put off by Porsche's SUVs for one main reason: the engines. Porsche was synonymous with sportscars and, boxer engines. Given the former is abandoned in the case of the Cayenne and now this Macan, I think they should have installed their iconic boxer engines instead. As it stands, its difficult for me to view their SUVs and anything more than breathed on Audis, engines included

For an extra 25K it had better kick the shit out of the Evoque. I'm sure Rover/Jag could make a rippin evoque but they would price themselves out of the desired market segment. Rover isn't in the compact SUV market to compete with the Macan, Porsche is in it to compete with the Evoque.

Having 2 different size tires might be pretty clever from a pure performance perspective. But.... you can't do proper balance and rotates and matching both the fronts and backs to the same make and model of tire can be a bitch. However, if you spend this much money on a car or suv I guess burning a 1000+ for a set of tires more often isn't that big of deal. To me though in terms on styling I just don't think the classic Porsche styling works in suv form. Kind of like the Mazda. Their Kodo styling looks good on the CX-5 but doesn't look all that appealing to me on their cars. Don't get me wrong the Macan looks good. Just not my cup of tea.

I own both evoque and cayenne. Cayenne back seat ride quality is terrible and i got the air suspension option. It's can't be compare it to evoque. But for shear driving pleasure I've to hand it to Cayenne. If you have passenger in the back go for evoque. If you don't go for 911.

Not the nicest thing to look at but then most Porsche's are not apart from the Cayman, the Evoque is a stunning design from the front however Land Rover buyers won't buy this and vise versa. There is a potential fly in the ointment for Porsche in that if you want the best performance 4 x 4 it's not made by Porsche or BMW or Mercedes go test drive a Bowler faster on grass than a Lambo on tarmac now that is a car.
