So this is what that piece of disintegrated bushing my 911's tunnel was for. Thanks!

Yes, they all seem to disintegrate!

Small steps, Tom. Couldn't tell you how many times I said to myself "that was harder than I thought it would be". Good job!

Thanks Chris. What does the Triumph accelerator linkage look like? Is it a simple sheathed cable or a rod system?
@roundtailrestoration4 жыл бұрын
@@GarageTimeAutoResto It's a rod system. The pedal and the carb linkage are joined by a removable rod and everything else is solid steel. Cables were used until later cars.

Cables were used on later cars?
@roundtailrestoration4 жыл бұрын
@@GarageTimeAutoResto Yup, starting with the Mk3 around 1970-71 or so, the cable came up and over the valve cover. Some people convert to cables.

Thx, I'm just wondering what if cables weren't allowed in the 60's? I seem to remember vw used cables in that era

More custom parts by Tom, well done Time for Zach to help with full throttle verify .

Wow. You described it right. That must have been a real brain puzzle to chew through. Looks like you covered the bases, and allowed for future adjustments. Thanks for the hard work to show us how you did it. 👍

I know I have said this many times, but these videos are great very helpful. You're ahead of me right now (on my 356, but definitely helpful).

Cool, it seems the linkage hasn't changed much since the 356! Keep going on that 356

This video was a god send. If you have a tig welder you’re already set up for brazing. Just buy some silicone bronze rods.
@GarageTimeAutoResto4 жыл бұрын
Great😀. I should use silicon bronze more often! I've tried it and it's not that much different. Just lower temperature.

Hi Tom, Great video. I ripped everything out of my tunnel and all parts are in boxes. I'm not sure I have all of the accelerator linkage parts. My plan is to paint my car on the rotisserie and then try to run all lines through the tunnel before I put on the suspension and put it on the ground. We will see if that works. Oh, yeah and headliner too, should be easier upside down.
@GarageTimeAutoResto4 жыл бұрын
Cool that will make lots of things easier. I had my 356 on an octagon rotisserie and the bars got in the way of the painting process so now it's on a flat dolly and I will be crawling around again to put all those tunnel items back in, sigh.

It's no wonder Porsche had to get Toyota in to show them how to make cars profitably! Why use a cable when a massively complex mechanical linkage will do?
@GarageTimeAutoResto4 жыл бұрын
It's a wonder Porsche made any money back in the 60's and 70's. My only thought is Porsche was really concerned about a stuck open throttle. If a small pebble or grit built up in a cable then it could stick. The mechanical linkage has huge clearances everywhere so it's unlikely to get stuck. I'm still baffled why there are so many adjustments though.
@richardjones384 жыл бұрын
@@GarageTimeAutoResto It is a mystery - the 914 and all beetles and VW buses always used a cable. Have a look at the mechanical throttle linkage at the pedal end in RHD a 964 or 993 for another complex throttle linkage. They used cables, but after moving the clutch assist spring mechanism from the gearbox (915) to the pedals (G50), there wasn't enough room for the shaft running across from the tunnel to the pedal, as used in all earlier RHD models. The 'fix' was another complex mechanical linkage mounted on the front firewall, using the space up above the clutch assist spring mechanism to transfer the motion across towards the tunnel then back down to floor level. Bushes, cranks, pushrods and ball joints everywhere! Annoyingly in the parts catalogue they try to show it on the same page as the LHD version which is not helpful at all.
