The two main differences between simulation and reality: 1. In reality you feel (and have to fight) the g-forces. 2. In reality you can crash and harm yourself or others which results in a different mindset and risk attitude.

I think time is the biggest difference. Driver only has track walk, maybe 10 laps of practice, and Engineers/Techs working tirelessly to crunch the data and find right setup. Like he said, they have only 1 hour and that includes getting ready. Sim has many hours to do laps over and over and over again until it's perfect. Of course, so do all the other sim races - margin of error becomes so tiny. But in real race, there's a pressure on Driver and Engineers to not waste a single second in practice and qualifying... or they fall behind the curve.

Yes you can. But with those seat motion thing is very expensive(can cost several thousands of dollars). But you can just buy a sim wheel set and stuck it on your table. Which you can buy on average 300usd ish. Better wheel=higher cost

Simulated cup car is not cool. Handles like over sized oil tanker with a small rudder. You cant pass someone unless they make a massive mistake. Go GT3. ACC GT3 911 is unbeatable. Rather race with that. IRacing Gt3 cup car is so boring. A pass move is 90% likely to end in a crash.

In iRacing the RR 911 GT3 cup has the lastetest tire model (v7) and is behaving like the real car (almost) the MR 911 RSR has also it difficulties. Both have no ABS - I’m looking forward to the GT4 cayman in iRacing ...

I highly encourage porsche to consider asseto corsa competizione as a main simulator for its simracing team. ACC is much closer to reality than iracing.

No it's not. Have you tried sim racing with a wheel and pedals? It's way harder than it looks and it's certainly not a game. It's very very challenging but also fun.

Let's see you become a world champ in sim racing then hotshot. The factory sim rigs are very high end spec made systems. They top player's make a decent living doing this as well.
