I invite Haitians to love their country, support your country, fight in your country. This way, you guys don't have to go the the Dominican Republic. You can do exactly what the Dominicans are doing with their country. Bring back Haiti, please. All you need to do is DREAM and Build. Be creative and offer yourself an opportunity to expand your horizons. Yes, you can do it if you want.

If some of you in the DIASPORA have not been in Haiti for a long time, you need to go. The COUNTRY is changing a lot after the EARTH QUAKE. Port au prince has a lot of new constructions, a lot of new things, the city is changing fast.

I can hear the passion and the love that you have for Haiti in your videos. As much as I would love to visit or even contemplate retiring in Haiti, there is a safety issue that cannot be ignored. Sure, crime is a problem in the states too and everywhere else in the world, but in Haiti the problem is extremely acute because of its impoverished dire state!!.
@Sheilan408 жыл бұрын
I really hope you're not a black man making such a statement.
@pikenova488 жыл бұрын
What does being black or for that matter any ethnicity have to do with my statement?
@Sheilan408 жыл бұрын
I question if you're a black man because you're talking about safety issues. In America you are more likely to be a victim by police or another black man. Black men are more feared and hated in American society than anyone else. Moreover, their lives are not valued.
@Sheilan408 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to share with you that in one city in America (Chicago) there have been 253 murders in 152 days. Just FYI.
@pikenova488 жыл бұрын
I think I should have the right to speak about safety issues in Haiti as I would of any other country. I am not trying to engage in a philosophical discussion with you regarding the plight of African-Americans in American society. I was hoping that perhaps you would tell me the media has grossly exaggerated the issue of safety in Haiti and that it's no different than any other place?
@EdisonGuerrasr10 жыл бұрын
Interesting. In Port-au-Prince see a few small cars, but a lot of pick-ups and SUV.
@caraclement10 жыл бұрын
Most definitely there are a lot of pick-ups and SUVs - people like to have four wheel drive vehicles in Haiti as in the past, the roads were not good. Now that more and more roads are being constructed, it's not as necessary.

Haiti is a very old country. The roads were built in the 1600s when people used horse and buggy or just a horse to get around. Haiti has been struggling financially for some time due to the payment s they were required to pay to France after they won the wars to end slavery, the country has not had the money to expand the roads.

*WEB / The news might be surprising for some people but not for Haitians. Haiti’s Natural resources total market value been recently estimated at 100 Trillion Dollars. This represent an average of 10 million dollars for every Haitian living of earth. These abundant natural resources could be essentially used to rebuild Haiti and give the nation a remarkable future. In the French newspaper **_Le Post,_** scientists Daniel and Ginette Mathurin say that Haiti’s oil reserves are larger than those of Venezuela. In fact, Daniel Mathurin says that Haiti’s oil reserves are so much larger that they are not even worth comparing. On March 27, 2004 Dr. Georges Michel detailed the history of oil discoveries in Haiti and explained why they have not been exploited yet. According to Michel, the big oil companies know about the massive reserves of oil in Haiti but in the 50s and 60s there was almost too much oil to go around so they decided that those reserves were not needed at the time and that they would be kept in reserve until later….[The attitude of these big multinational oil companies was] “We shall keep the Haitian deposits and other such layers of deposits in reserve for the 21st century when the Middle Eastern jackpot is depleted.”*

The contrast between the poor and the rich is so evident throughout the whole city is just something that I can not deal with. Port-au-Prince is a city I will never live in. It seems to be just a big mess!
@caraclement10 жыл бұрын
Yes, Haiti is a country of extreme contrasts - it's something that a lot of people struggle with seeing. Port-au-Prince is a very crowded and busy city, but I wouldn't call it a mess. If you want peace and quiet, the country side is great, or head up into the mountains above Port-au-Prince. It's gorgeous up there, and the views are amazing.
