Great video 👍👍. I sure hope they save every one of those pilot houses. I am always surprised that more people don’t use them for lake homes. Thanks

Poignant but beautiful. Seems the classic lakers are being broken up in multiples now. Remarkable presentation.

Glad you liked the video. Unfortunately most classic lakers (front pilot house) are more than 50 years old. These are even older. (the S.T. Crapo is around 100). Most merchant ships around the world are no where near this age. Its sad to see them go, but which and how many do we preserve (and you know someone will ask Who Pays?) Still I get sad everytime an old piece of machinery gets scrapped.

The guy walking at the rear of the Ojibway really puts in perspective the size of these ships when they are out of water.

Yes they are pretty large, but then you realize Seaway Max which is based on the Welland Canal, is one of the smallest size categories in the shipping world. Thanks for watching!

So sad to see them there. Great veterans left to be torn down to nothing. Seeing the S T Crapo being the oldest veteran of them all built in 1927 is heartbreaking 💔 She has been in Green Bay Wisc until last fall being used for storage. 😢They are all gone but live on in videos ❤

Thanks, that's why we try to capture them in action if we can.

i remember seeing the ojibway in hamilton harbor some time ago. i find it surprising ship scrapping happens in ontario given regulation and labor wages. i would have thought india, pakistan or turkey were the places for this.

I guess its a question of location. Maybe the extra cost to tow a ship out of the great lakes takes the competitive edge away from third world countries.
