This area around the station in Port Jeff was never great, but it is now in a complete, severe free-fall, with most stores vacant and many homeless all over the place. While Patchogue is thriving because its on the $outh $hore, the northern end of Route 112 is facing the same neglect and discrimination the rest of us face. It is now too dangerous to even wait for a bus or take the train here. Even the bank across from Mather Hospital closed too.

NO it is not Port Jefferson Station. It is Port Jefferson Village everything you showed which is north of the tracks. Thank the horrible leaders/property owners in the area for not allowing the builders and developers to recreate the area like Patchogue! If they encourage the builders the town could look great in a matter of a 1 year. Real simple!

Hurts to see this. I grew up in Huntington and also lived in Rocky Point and owned a house in Bellport left in 05 to Puerto Rico but now live in Kansas. I miss Long Island but friends say i wouldn't want to see it now.

My mom's family moved from Newburgh to PJS around 1948, half a block from the bowling alley, along with many others who were going to work in the Wilson lace mill, the entire neighborhood was built to house those families - now the mill is broken up into who knows what. My aunt moved back into the house when my last grandparent died in 92 and she stayed til 03 - when I go back to visit it is jarring how terrible it's gotten, the Jefferson shopping plaza and the old Dairy Barn across the street look dead to the world (when I was a kid there was a Bohack where Meat Farms was later, who knows what it is now, booming small business, the Har-Rob bootery where I got shoes, Pizza Carnival, etc.)...my dad met my mom in the Carvel across from the plaza when they went to PJHS in "da late 50s" (before it was named for Vandermeulen, HE was their principal). When the Brookhaven Theatre closed that sucked a lot of life out of the place...at that time 'down Port' was the rundown slum with the XXX theater where Theatre Three is now, it's really done a 180. I guess that's also about the time Foghat had the Boogie Hotel studio too...but PJS seems to have really gone downhill and it's a damn shame, so many memories there (we lived in Selden & I probably spent half my childhood in PJS because of my grandparents). Thanks in any case for this footage. Chris Liberty, Texas (like PJS but with more trailers and meth)

Now in Port Jefferson you would think with a view of the Long Island Sound the area would be nicer and more desirable but no it's not the Enclave of the South Shore I had a relative who lived import Jefferson not far from the train station he moved out of they are like 10 years ago thank goodness and now lives in Florida and this is what's happening people are escaping Long Island two places like Florida the Carolinas and some are moving to New Jersey Pennsylvania among many other states

They have been trying, and it has only gotten worse. It doesn't help to be at the end of a train line.

If im correct Port Jeff is a summer town. Well it used to be. They built a place next to the station for drug addicts and homeless people. Since then Port Jeff has been trash. They are trying to fix it as much as they can though.

Such a simple explanation for anyone paying attention. Lots of land beneath those buildings being sold and bought to create new! Already started next to train tracks and old lobster house.. 5 years from now compare your video

What also makes no sense about this is, all of these places could be restored and used for affordable housing, group homes, people with Disabilities, whatever. What's weird is, towns like Sea Cliff are still highly desirable, and popular, but Port Jeff east is rotting? You would think towns like this would only be increasing in realty value, and the realty companies would be raking it in redeveloping and replanning, even if not affordable housing. Instead, rot. You don't see this happening even in Port Washington or Manhasset, although ok, the general income levels and wealth index is a ton higher in those places, as with Great Neck, etc.

There's a close friend of mine who lives there and she lives in the much nicer part by the schools. A very nice neighborhood, none of this rotting garbage :o Once you get to the train tracks, THAT'S when you hit the shits. My dad lived in Patchogue back when it was a ghetto hellscape, but it's come a long way since those days. I kinda miss it, I always looked forward to Alive After Five.

Some family of mine lives 2 miles from there, I drive through the 'station' to get there. Go about a mile North to the PJ ferry area (PJ proper) is still pretty nice. PJ station has always been fairly deserted, but never THIS bad! I recall the following open in recent years: 4:34 A-C Electric (formally Napa auto parts, see yellow stripe), 4:12 fireplace store, the furniture store across the street, 4:01 tuxedo store, 6:36 the skater (or bike) store, 1:42 Army Navy store, 2:09 billiards where a shooting took place. They did put up a nice decorative piece at the LIRR parking lot. That’s by the station. That’s been a shitshow forever. Tara’s is the only redeeming thing there. You failed to show the “newly built low income housing” that wasn’t there prior to uptown getting this bad. You’re not showing down port either.

He also promised to eradicate all the gangs from LI, and they're still thriving!! Reason: A. the cops are full of shit and B. Trump was full of shit! I say fire ALL OF THEM and get people who will do a good job for once. Time for The Untouchables. They also can't catch a serial killer that (ostensibly) lives right here on LI! They cannot even catch a cold.
