Seems like a cool town, I've driven through it many times but never stopped. I doubt they sold the land, more like it was stolen from them. You seemed to like it.

Thanks for this walk through Port Washington. I lived there when I was 10 - 20 years old. It is not part of NYC. It is in Nassau County. NYC ends with Brooklyn and Queens on Long Island. If you made a left turn on Main Street from the train station you would have ended up by the waterfront on Manhasset Bay. Much more interesting. Nice to see the old town. I have not been back since 1985.
