I'm not laughing. As far as welding goes, Hobart is a GREAT welder. Just get a scrap piece of 3/16 or the 1/4 and start practicing. Remember, the gas shoots out the tip as soon as you pull the trigger. And that's the way the welding puddle should go. There will be some who agree and some who disagree with me. And that's ok. Everyone has their own way. And 2 THUMBS UP 👍👍 for that build you did. Consider me a subscriber.

Nice video thank you for posting it! So is that toggle clamp the only thing that is holding the saw in place?
@tomsdreamshopworx
@tomsdreamshopworx 4 жыл бұрын
Lou Wallace - No, the clamp is not the only spot. Early in the video when I’m cutting that metal plate out with a jigsaw, there is a notch I cut out that slides partly into a fan opening on the motor. The saw is hanging on that and then the clamp locks it in position. If you look at other bandsaw table videos you’ll see this is a very popular mounting point. That’s where I learned that from. I’m glad you liked the video

I would have made my own if I had the equipment and ability, so I went with Swag Offroad's portable table. It wasn't cheap ($140 for the version 3) but I love the miter gauge slots, they also have a no frills version that clamps into a bench vise. It's a great setup for a small shop, and it's made in America. Can't wait to get to work making knife scales out of the most beautifully figured piece of wenge I've ever seen, which came from my local Woodcraft. When I took it up to the cashier we ended up talking about all the things that could be done with it for nearly half an hour, I felt terrible once I remembered that I had left my grandmother in the car but she'll get over it in a week or two...

Very simple design and great Idea with the quick clamp simple is often better if it gets the job done ! One thing I thought I'd add. If your machine slides around a little you could place some 1/2 by 4 inch bars under and beside the machine bed so it will seat on mark every time.. no sliding at all. May not make much difference if that clamp holds steady. Thanks for sharing.

when welding the bed frame, there must be different types of steel, because I have had some weld really well, while others seem to be harder steel and won't weld well. I wonder if the un-weldable stuff is cast iron or something.

Somewhat unrelated, what brand cut off saw and what brand/model/teeth blade did you use in the cutoff saw?
@tomsdreamshopworx
@tomsdreamshopworx 4 жыл бұрын
Tim Adams - The cut off saw is a Milwaukee 14” (it’s not made any more) low RPM and the blade is a Diablo 14” carbide blade for cutting steel. There are many other brands of saws that use the carbide blades. The main attribute is they only run around 11 or 1200 RPMs.

One reason it didn’t weld the legs that good is because 99% of bed rails are hardened to a degree. Hard to weld hardened steel unless you have a tig. Anyway great project. After watching several of these table mods, this one seems to be the best and easier. Thanks and good luck 👍

Congratulations you got one of the good saws? I've burned up two of them in less than a year. The first one lasted 2 days and I only use the saw about 10 minutes a month. After they gave me a new one, that one lasted 10 months. It just burned up 3 days ago. No extended warranty plan, so I'm without a saw now. I did the same thing as you building a stand for it, but I think it doesn't protect the saw motor from the debris getting intro it? I didn't use mine all that hard, but I guess you DO get what you pay for? My issue is that ALL the porta band saws are made in China now, so I can't even find a good one. Stoney

@@tomsdreamshopworx that us an awesome welder !! Sorry for the comment I am just you mentally against Harbor freight so I get out of control LOL. I have the Hobart handler 210 practically the same machine it's actually a very good welder! Don't bother with flux core flux core is terrible people will argue but any real welder will say no flux core is for amateurs

@@tomsdreamshopworx but I don't think bed frames would be hardened there would be no reason to do that it would be a ridiculous expense. They would become more brittle that's exactly what you don't want for a bed frame lol. I believe it's this mild Steel but sometimes you got to screw around with the settings till you got it perfect. Make sure all your pieces are clean down to the metal clean and shiny. Takes a few pieces that you want to dwell together in play with the settings until you get it sounding like bacon frying a nice hiss sizzle not a lettuce bad or sounding. when I was first learning to weld that was the best advice I got was make it sound like bacon frying and your settings will be right.

Who wears a nylon shirt to grind in? And shorts too? That's why you burnt a hole in it. Always wear 100% cotton when welding or grinding bro.

Jimmy Davis - I gonna to guess and say lots of hobbyist welders wear shorts when it’s really hot out side. As it turns out the t shirt is 100% cotton because that’s all I wear.

paul c - My welder is a Hobart 190 220 volt using C 25 gas. I don’t think it’s the welder.

@@tomsdreamshopworx I'm another "learn-as-you-go" welder; I had similar results with welding uneven thickness metal as you until I was taught to set the welder up hot enough for the thick piece, and keep the heat on the thick piece until you have a puddle, then move over to the thin. I'll bet you have discovered that by now, though! Cheers!

Amazing your absence of safety provisions. No gloves, no appropriate clothes, wood next to welding station. And you claim sharing lessons learned. As a good Yankee you are probably proud of living at risk.

You do safety your way, I'll do it my way. I always wear safety glasses fyi. Also, no need to get personal about where I live or what you think I stand for. I went looking for your channel to see how you work. It is easy for one to pass judgement while sitting in a chair looking at a computer screen.

Glad you liked it. I am familiar with the foot switches. In my application. I preferred the switch, I used. I am very comfortable doing electrical work. The foot switches are great too. Good luck on your build.
