The magnetic switch is sold as a window alarm sensor switch for detecting when a window is opened. It's just a switch which turns on when a magnet is moved close to it. Magnet and switch come as a set.

hi simon , just curious as to what level of water that pump will pump down to? obviously not lower than the plywood base but how close?

I know it's been a year since you asked this, sorry somehow missed it. It works down to an inch or so. I heel the boat a little so all the water rushes to one side which helps it get almost all of it.
