There's nobody there! Reminds me of Tony Hancock's line "This radio lark's a wonderful hobby, y'know. I've got friends all over the world, all over the world... none in this country, but friends all over the world." ;-)

Hi Lewis, I made one of these for 2 meters some time ago for home use (there's little to no 70cm activity here), works quite well but doesn't look neat but that doesn't matter to me, used it homebase for a week at the previous QTH, great antenna to make for newly licensed Amateurs

Good results from the home brew antenna. It shows that even a relatively simple antenna can give good results over a standard whip on the radio. Nice one :-) 73

Looks just like the 2 meters. I just builed swr 1.0 . The 70 cm I just finished yesterday looks like your setting on top 3/4 pvc .

Be good to see the how to once you have the rights parts. One a side note what is the other mag mount antenna next to the white stubby one?
@RingwayManchester5 жыл бұрын
Stay tuned! :) The antennas on the car ar the white stubby, a VHF whip and a nagoya sp80 dual bander

I have one of those stubby mobile aerials. Not the greatest on VHF but surprisingly good performance on UHF and cheap as well. Very useful for going into underground carparks with the limited height restriction

It's a nice simple design. I made one once for receiving adsb plane beacons on 1090mhz. I've had better results making slim jims with twinlead. Good on you for making your own antennas!

Cheers! Looking at making a 1090mhz one, also a tape measure yagi soon too!

You've got me going now, ordered up some new copper rods, and a few SO239 chassis sockets. Looks the business that does Lewis, and cracking results. I was looking for something like that to mount at home, low-key kind of thing. I'm only a week away from (hopefully) my foundation. So will build one of these for 70cms. It's funny really, you said around your area there aren't many using 70cms, yet down here it's the opposite - 2m is almost dead. It's all 70cms that is active around here, I have been listening solidly for the last few weeks learing etiquette and how to conduct calls etc - and it's almost all on UHF. Anyway, great video - i'd be interested in seeing a build video of the 1/4 wave. ATB Lewis, Mike.

Hi Mike! Good stuff on the foundation! I've built a 2m version too! All my parts are here now so going to make a better version. Let me know how the foundation goes.

After quite an intense two day course & test I can now say I passed the foundation. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but just happy I got it over and done with now! ATB, Mike.

Please put the link for the small white antena. For us new in this who start on a budget. :) And in the future for other components, like antena, radio you have or used put some links in the description. Is verry helpful. thanks. I am new subscriber. Just found you. Keep it going. :)
@RingwayManchester5 жыл бұрын
Hey! I don't share links unless I work with a company incase anyone gets ripped off by a dodgy seller. The antenna is on ebay as stubby mag mount antenna, the radio is the Retevis RT3S, Baofeng UV-82. Thanks so much!

Are you allowed to use DMR in the UK on a foundation licence?
@Goyotero10005 жыл бұрын
What happened with the Midland GB-1 or 200 dPMR? Or the Sainsonic FM-416 dPMR...
@Goyotero10005 жыл бұрын
It's not dPMR! It's dual slot DMR also know as TDMA direct.
@RingwayManchester5 жыл бұрын
Yes you are
@humaxf15 жыл бұрын
You could make this into a dual band by adding a second radiator for 2m in a kinda ‘V’ shape to separate them.
@RingwayManchester5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Cheers
@AdamSWL5 жыл бұрын
Build one for 2m, put a tee piece at the top of the pole, mount both antennas a metre apart on a cross piece and feed them thorough a 2m/70cm duplexer so you can go both bands at once with separate radios! Easy to break down and put in the car or temporary install out in the field.
@RingwayManchester5 жыл бұрын
Nice one Adam! I've just built a 2m version! Hoping to test soon!

Absolutely, but since Lewis had already built the UHF version.....might as well make one for VHF!

Goyotero1000 SO239 is female - PL259 is male. The amount of times you hear them incorrectly named is incredible especially by seasoned operators or the highest level licensee who really should know better.

Word has it that all "field programmable" radios which can be programmed outside the amatuer band are to be banned "for sale" in U.S., and heavy fines implemented for anyone caught using them "out of band".
@sharonjuniorchess5 жыл бұрын
Goyotero anyone with a licence can buy them and operate them within the amateur bands. It is in the bands that do not require a licence that these radios do not meet the requirements (reduced power & no user access to frequencies other than those set aside for PMR use) that invalidates them for sale to unlicenced users and making any claims that they are suitable for unlicenced use that is causing the problem.
@Goyotero10005 жыл бұрын
This is true now, but soon you will see the new directive, that prohibits the sale of field programable radio to everyone (unless they have appropriate amateur band limits) in the USA. Existing radios will be "grandfathered" in for amateurs.
