What is shutdown and why it's required?
Simply a live water line valve shut or stop the water is called water line shutdown.
For maintenance purposes or any new connections water line shutdown requires.
Procedure
1) write a letter to water line authorities with subject Need to shutdown(..any....) Line for maintenance or new line connections for 2 hours. So they will accept and reply with time nd date.
2) prepared all necessary requirements for work during shutdown
In this video you can see new connection for fire hydrant 150mm dia main line to 100 mm dia fire Hydrant connection.

Pipe cutter
Pipe piece as per required length
Flange sockets
Reducer tee 150 to 100
Putty
Bitumen tape,
Thrust blocks etc
