I have bought one on the strength of this video, it arrived today, I have tried it out in my back garden, unfortunately, my home QTH isn't great for HF Radio, as I have S8 noise however I thought I would try 40M, using a SWR meter I managed to get down to about 1.3. Using an FT-818 with 6W I managed to get into Cookstown in Northern Ireland with a 3.3 Signal. I am really happy with this. I have some radials from another antenna and I think I may add them to see if I can get the SWR down further. I only work portable so this antenna is going to help me get more out of Amateur Radio

Thx Matt for the Video, Purchased the Slidewinder about 6 months ago, works well, and have used it in the same manner u have portrayed here, thinking to buy another My ground mount was a bit more home brew with a piece of rebar 😀, cheers n the G90 does well too! Ciao n 73, gd dx.

Yep, I’ve had many people bash me over this, so I’m trying to be the best ham I can be and use the correct phonetics. I even stopped using SILLY for Sierra! 😆

I have made mine a centre loaded virtical i had 2 old poles from a old portable anttena i found it easy to tune on 7,14,18mhz i did not test it on the air much to cold here i will wait for better weather

Nice one matt has been using the Chamilion Mpas 2.0 for a year and a bit now and comes with that whip and all this time never thought about using it on 10-11-12 lol I purchased the sidewinder as well and have had similar results to your very capable antenna, could int he glove box and whip under the seat. No more ampro's trying to take my eye out while driving. Nice work matey

HF is wonderful, really opens up the hobby! Radios may be expensive but antennas can be made from scrap pieces of wire. Good luck on your journey!

If you have a 3d printer you can make the coil former and then most of the rest you just have to decide what to use for the whip a good simple design

How broadband is it as you tune up and down the band? Are you constantly adjusting?

@@TechMindsOfficial Use the ITU phonetics to avoid confusion. The other stuff is just made up by DXers and just makes communications harder.

@@luthersimpson1800 Hardly. Very often I am trying to get "alpha" across the waves, and end up using "america" which is picked up almost immediately. Same with "Mike", more often than not I resort to "mexico". In my experience, it's made communication far easier. But then again, I'm not some stuffy old G7 either.

You’ve probably already have the answer but if not, radials are 4.5m. Length isn’t critical when ground mounted.
