It is hardwood central here on the EC, Tinman. I cut nothing but oak, cherry, maple, and walnut. I know your ear is about a thousand times better than mine, but the low jet sounded lean. Otherwise, you have a killer, there!💪💪💪

Hey tinman. I'm from New England, we definitely cut a lot of fire wood over here, and all hard wood! I'd love to see you do a 395xp. I just did a holzfforma 395 myself and was very impressed with it. I did a video on my channel about it.

From the numbers I thought it would be a dog, this and Ironhorse's 372 really show that the numbers are just one small bit of the equation.
@tinmanssaws Жыл бұрын
It's the shapes of the transfers that matter in my experience. This saw could be better but it's actually not horrible lol
@whatnowstinky Жыл бұрын
@@tinmanssaws the shape of the lower transfers where the air moves into the transfers? the shape of the upper transfers directing the air over the piston and setting up the swirl in the chamber? Or the mid transfer section where flow is consolidated, accelerated and turned?

Bro I got a 298xp.... And I couldn't find a brand new carburetor for it so I put a carb for a 272 on there..... You think I'll notice any differene? The 272 carbs were available.... From aftermarket for just dirt cheap... Saw runs good..... I heard the 298 XP and the 2100 are identical saws... The Saw shop mechanic... Told me exactly how to drill and tap for a compression release.. and where to put it.... I did... And I absolutely love this saw I've had it since 1989... A logger borrowed it from me and says that it is an absolute animal... The chrome-plated cylinder bore is still in mint condition... People tell me it's one of the most sought-after used saws.. they only made em for two years they are a souped-up factory Saw... Most guys couldn't start them and hurt their hands from cord pulling through their fingers... Because of their high compression...

288 carb would pronlbably be better but a 272 carb should work. I have a 298 it's a stump puller.

Nice saw. I was gifted one a 371xpg. It has a busted mag side case but other wise it's complete. Can't move on to it until I get that stubborn 272xp build working. Definitely getting the itch...😂. If anyone has a set of 371xp cases I'm look'en. Or the mag side at least. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

Very interesting how the numbers work out. I like how you didn't touch the intake timing on this one, it's a good way see what happens with just raising the exhaust. I have a couple saws waiting to get built and I can't get to them for a while because I have to move and get a shop set up. I will have two identical saws with new identical cylinders and I might do one with only raised exhaust and the other with only lowered intake. It's killing me because I have so many experiments to try and I can't get to them for quite a while lol. And you better look me up if you come to the East coast to Nova Scotia,😉

I think if you put smaller dogs on it it would change the geometry between the bottom spike and the chain it wouldn't pinch it off so bad. Up to you.

@aussiehardwood6196 Жыл бұрын
He's right about the dawgs, to big....too grabby changes the whole performance of the saw. The old codger is right, the chain cut very well when the dawgs were away from the log, as soon as the dawgs touched the log the chain would stall. Thats classic 'too big dawg' problem.
