Hilarie, it's fun watching how you break down and teach this tune! As you probably know, I played banjo on Howard and Tricia's recording of it, and it was fun, but a bit challenging, figuring out how to make it work well on the banjo. I played that II chord in the B part as a quick (partial) II minor (2nd string, 2nd fret and 1st string, 3rd fret) to match the melody note with a hint of the II chord, but left it up to the rhythm instruments to play the full chord. Also, though I'm not generally a big fan of clawhammer triplets as ornaments (I often find them a little too "precious" and fussy), at the end of the two repeating phrases at the beginning of the A part, I do play the 4th string triplets that I hear the fiddle play as part of the melody, both because I like the way it sounds, and also the way it feels under my fingers, if that makes sense. Just a tidbit for your students to play with if they like! 🙂Anyway, great job laying out the tune!
