Officer Jakhary Jackson of the Portland Police Bureau shares his perspective as a black officer responding to nightly “protests” in downtown Portland.
Portland rioters repeatedly tossed rocks, fireworks, and other objects at officers on Saturday as unrest continued to fester in the city, police said.
Hundreds of demonstrators blocked traffic near a law enforcement precinct and hurled firecrackers, stones, and soda cans at officers attempting to break up the disturbance, according to a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office press release. Officers were also struck with metal ball bearings from slingshots, the release detailed.
Here's the TRUTH about what's happening in Portland: dailysign.al/3...

Activism itself is not the issue or wrong as this statement seems to allude. The issue is in the goal, the path used to get there, and how this meshes with the actions of the participants. The people using social issues to engage in criminal and antisocial behavior are of great concern, but equating these individuals or even a mob of them as a representation of what activism is, is an oversimplification at best.

To give an example from a dirty old man's playbook : I know a guy who only visits church to scout for single females, when he runs out of people to "hunt", moves on to a different church. His intentions are fully dubious, I personally consider it ill intent. I don't link his actions with religion or worship services . It is an example of a type of parasitic relationship seen at every level of society and something that I have noticed that many turn a blind eye to. Sorry, but I don't think Malcolm X would have agreed with this Officer and it is at least irresponsible and at most malicious to mischaracterize him like this. First, Malcom didn't like white liberals because they were too moderate. I suggest listening/reading the whole speech on white liberals. Second in a speech about racial violence he says this "Last summer, when the Blacks were rioting-the riots, actually they weren’t riots in the first place; they were reactions against police brutality.2 And when the Afro-Americans reacted against the brutal measures that were executed against them by the police, the press all over the world projected them as rioters. When the store windows were broken in the Black community, immediately it was made to appear that this was being done not by people who were reacting over civil rights violations, but they gave the impression that these were hoodlums, vagrants, criminals...." Third, I suggest listening to his speech about "the house negro and field negro". I suspect he might have considered this Officer the former. Obviously we can't know what Malcolm would think now but considering his stance on riots in the past it seems like you are mischaracterizing him to a large extent.

Pretty sure Denzil Washington said a similar thing in a speech he gave to graduating students. Which is so very true you can spend a lot of time doing something which is nothing n never getting anywhere in life. In contrast this notion could actually be applied to a whole movement like BLM which in essence is another in carnation of black power back in the day. People saw that but what did it really change for black people in the end? What message were we really trying to push to others aswell as ourselves? Way I see it black people need to come together and fix black problems n build ourselves up in business and in industries n build places like Africa and Jamaica up for future black generations and black communities around the world then we won't need BLM because we then don't have to prove anything to anyone but ourselves. This was what Malcolm X wanted for us and Martin Luther King and they were assassinated because in there time they were seen as a threat when really they were the light for all black people.

@@miscl_anon I agree all it takes is a network of a few black pieceful organisations that look beyond the trouble and the strife and are dedicated to true empowerment of the black people. Those organisations would of course need charitable contributions from the black community to exist but if we had smart black people who can run those establishments, we could then see a dramatic improvement within our communities, creating jobs and real plans to help the black people across the world out of poverty and lack of opportunities. i.e. places like Africa and turning poverty around. People who have it hard, just need the right opportunities and circumstances and if there is no opportunities we have to create it for ourselves literally. Especially for those who don't have that option and give them the support networks they need and the choices they need to empower their own lives to help others. We as a people can change for the better and change the systems narrative if we all come together, society as it is now doesn't offer that or cares about that for us. I really believe the reason behind that is to keep black people confused and often fighting amongst ourselves (we can be our own problem or we can be our own solution) when the answer is to truly to come together to create industries and to throw away childish games and to help build each other up by getting on board with creative ideas and businesses. I used to be into rap, grime and all sorts and I still am but I realise now those songs can be quite negative and damaging and when I really think about it, its music to suppress our people. Although the lyrical content they say is about our struggle, why does it need to be about struggle? when it doesn't have to be about that. Plus those artists alot of them, are basically using that as an excuse to make millions out of our misery. A simple mind change like that to change how we see our brothers and sisters for the better is a good change for the better. That is one of the things we as people can change about ourselves (how we see each other and recognising who we really are as a people and being proud of ourselves by coming together, not saying or doing bad things or trying to hurt one another or focusing too heavily on the past and saying stuff like it's because I'm black) imagine what else we could accomplish? If we did this we then don't need no other races to justify us and we intern don't need recognition from any other race but our own. It wouldn't matter so much if someone had a racist thought in their mind towards you, when you know your people are on the up side of things and becoming richer and more powerful by the day, this is because you'd know you dont have to rub shoulders with them so much. All we would need to do is look at how other races have flourished from such affections of hospitality towards themselves and that is our answer, you gotta look inwards so we can flourish outward. We have to remember at one stage we weren't trying to kill one another and we as a community was tight, it's only been since drugs have been introduced into our communities and guns really that have caused this backward view of ourselves, plus giving the police and the law an excuse to try and kill us even though in the US the killing of black people happened regardless with linching and all that. If we could only just get rid of that and really put our heads together to create businesses we'd be way better off. Seriously we need to put away childish things and stop thinking short term and think long term, forget all this girl and money stuff and looking good infront of other people and truly focus on families, education and business, thats how we bring ourselves up as people. No police or law can ever take that away from us no matter what then fathers wouldn't need to get shot or put in prison and are more likely to stay in families all because they have jobs. It all starts in the home with good morals to teach our kids of the future. Not saying though we as black people should be horrible to other races while we do this, we have to be better than showing resentment and just be better people. I'm also saying we shouldn't forget the past but use it as a basis to set a better future for us all.

@@Teito762 Do the feds not enforce their laws in those states?, because it is a federal crime for a felon to possess a firearm, or bullets, or gunpowder, or anything that fires a projectile using a trigger mechanism, or pretty much any piece/component of a firearm. Which is a completely unconstitutional law that the supreme court has decided to uphold even though it is above theirs, or anyone else's authority to infringe on a person's right to possess a firearm for protection. They keep taking my guns and locking me up for having them, but guess what? I am always going to get more. You know why? Because it is my right to be able to protect myself. I have the moral high ground on this one. They can, and likely will continue to lock me up for possessing firearms, but I will never stop, because I would rather be caught with one than without one. I’m so fucking tired of hearing their apologists bend over backward trying to defend their movements with the classic “That doesn’t represent ALL of us!” line anytime you point this out to them because it always falls flat when you realize that really next to no one on their side openly disavows the more violent shit going on when it frequently happens because they’re either too afraid of getting dogpiled on social media for daring to criticize their own movement or, much worse, don’t say anything at all because they actually SUPPORT the violence.

And then there's people like you shoving both sides into discrete buckets. Clearly this guy isn't a "proud boy" who is anti-anti-fascist, and ignores the existence of systemic racism. He wants to have a legitimate conversation with the people out there protesting. People like his cousin who legitimately do believe that racism is real and there is a problem that needs addressing. Unfortunately there aren't more cops like this or we would have had these conversations decades ago instead of waiting for it to reach a boiling point. And once you're at a boiling point, the time for conversation is long past. Now you have to let the steam blow off, come back afterwards and learn from it. History is repeating itself, but the people out there protesting and rioting are the *symptom*, not the cause. We're here because people's needs were being ignored for decades. Look back throughout history; when you neglect people for long enough, eventually they'll do something about it, and it won't be rational, and people are going to get hurt. But the mistakes had been made for decades already, the camel was already fully maxed out, the only thing it needed was a span of several months where everyone is frustrated and unemployed, and George Floyd was the straw that broke the camel's back. If you're frustrated by the protests, then you're not listening to what they're saying. We've had a problem for a loooong time. We've been repeating history for a looooong time. @@zroberts02 Weird, I linked a study that showed that something like 51% of officers in the USA had college degrees of some sort. 30%+ have 4 year degrees but the comment was deleted. It's called "Policing around the Nation: Education, Philosophy, and Practice" and it's published on the National Police Foundation's website. So, while I did just make the statement because most of the officers I know who work in the Northern suburbs of DFW (and I know quite a few of them in Plano, Allen, and McKinney) all the ones under 40 had 4 year degrees, the study proves my intuition correct. The higher the population of the area served by the police force the higher the number of bachelor degrees, to where it approaches 50%, and adding in associates degrees it goes way over the majority. Most Federal law enforcement agencies outright require a bachelor's degree, and many of the state bureaus like the Texas Rangers, while they may not implicitly require a Bachelor's degree, you're not going to get in without one.

They're dignified but not holier than thou, they have good walking posture, and they know when/how to introduce themselves respectfully and appropriately.

@InSpaceDude I'm Danish. We learned about that in school... So what is your take on the risk of repeating history in the us; Democrats demonizing trump and his quanon/trumpist followers and trying to make sure Trump can't get reelected for a second term... or Trump demonizing Democrats as communists, sowing doubt about the votes, peer reviewed media and enticing his followers to try to overthrow the democratic election process in his favour?

Jay Johnson the sad part is that most of the time those officers never face significant punishment. This is mostly due to the fact that lots of courthouses are funded by police unions. How come Breonna Taylor’s murderers still haven’t been convicted??
@crustyasstimbs8532
@crustyasstimbs8532 3 жыл бұрын
Jay Johnson I’ll give a completely unbiased perspective to you. The officers had a no knock warrant when they broke into her house and they fired 22 shots at her and her boyfriend who had a legally owned firearm who also shot back at the officers, but only about 3 times I believe. Breonna was killed in the crossfire and it turns out the cops went to the completely wrong house, her and her boyfriend were completely innocent. None of them have been charged.
