We never thought that our travels would take us to a very remote location north of the Arctic Circle : Greenland.
My Travel Cinematography E-Book : oftwolands-sho...
We spent 4 days in Ilulissat, a town located on the western side whose name means 'Icebergs', and once we arrived it was easy to understand why the town was named after these white giants.
Icebergs in the Disko Bay area are some of the biggest in the world, rising up to 100m above sea level (more than 300ft).
(The one that sank the Titanic is thought to have come from here.)
Apart from its gigantic icebergs, the town is known for the Ilulissat icefjord, a UNESCO World heritage site.
Covering an area as large as 66,000 football fields, it is made by icebergs that calve from Sermeq Kujalleq, the fastest moving glacier in the world.
Our time exploring this beautiful and unique part of the world was filled with amazing and unforgettable experiences. From sailing under the midnight sun, hiking along the icefjord or whale spotting in the early morning, we feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to visit.
Being so high up north there is no darkness in summer at all and the sun keeps circling around all day long. The contrast of the blue sky, against the white icebergs as well as the temperature difference between the shore and the ocean made our filming experience very unique.
Crossing the Arctic Circle was a childhood dream and we are glad that we had the chance to document this place, as we know in the back of our minds that the Arctic is a fast-changing and very fragile environment, and due to human impact (in the form of over-tourism, mining or any other human exploits); it more than likely won’t be there forever, or at least not as we saw it.
Greenland's ice sheet covers 1.8 million km2 and contains 10% of the world's reserves of fresh water. Every year the ice is losing more mass than is being created. If the entire ice sheet melted, the world's oceans would rise by 6 metres…
Being there and actually flying over the icecap made us realise how important it really is to protect and care about this pure, fragile and beautiful place, and preserve it for future generations.

Great information about the loss of ice in your video description. I went to Iceland 3 years ago, and all the ice caves I saw there have already melted away. We need to be clear about how humans have caused a changing climate, so that we can slow down the effects and hopefully others can see the beauty we have been fortunate to witness.

Yes, it is so important. Now more than ever. We also visited Iceland in 2015 and absolutely loved the place. It is sad to think that it is changing.. So much to be lost.

We do need to be clear: the ice in the arctic has actually experienced a net increase over the last decade. There is no human-caused climate change. Climate change has nothing to do with carbon dioxide, or humans. It is a cocktail of causes (primarily solar activity) and has nothing to do with human activity. Having said that, I do agree we should be good stewards of our home and work to conserve and sustain the fragile beauty of the planet we inhabit. But we don't need to believe a politically motivated lie that gravy trains scientists to get on board, and ostracizes those with the courage to publicly disagree, in order to do that.

@@MikeOzmun If we're being clear, then you are CLEARLY incorrect except for the part where you said this: "I do agree we should be good stewards of our home and work to conserve and sustain the fragile beauty of the planet we inhabit." You are clearly not a climate scientist, nor do you have the understanding the the sea ice in the Arctic is far different than the land ice. Here's a link to get you started with data: climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/ice-sheets/

@@TheOnlyDJChillWill You are clearly no scientist either. Termites emit 10x the amount of carbon dioxide as humans. It's ok. There was a time when the "settled science" was a flat earth. Here's a link to get you started in your research. Happy studying! www.weatheraction.com

Beautiful images! I am going to the same place in Greenland with my family in July. Will be filming with the Z CAM E2 and a sigma MFT 16mm F1.4. Your film is a source of inspiration, thank you. How long did you stay in Disco bay and do you have any recommendations in terms of filming there?
@OfTwoLands
@OfTwoLands 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you !! You’re going to love it. Such a unique and beautiful place. We only stayed 4 days. In terms of filming there just bring an Nd filter as the sun is extremely harsh, and keep your batteries close to your body if you do on the water, it gets ridiculously cold. A lot of mosquitoes near the shore so remember to bring a tripod if you want some still shot haha. And apart from the reflective ice, that’s about it. Oh and bring a wide lens if you want to shoot the icebergs whilst on the water, they’re huge :). We loved shooting near the ilulissat icefjord and and we took a midnight sun cruise to get close to the ice. Cheers, Flo

Waiting for my BMPCC4K to arrive. Have ASUS zenbook pro with 16gb of memory and often have a notice from the NLP resolve that my CPU is full, using files from GH4. So my question is what codec should I use to start with, BRAW,proress ...I am lost, cannot find an explanation about the best system for this camera.Hope you can give some good advice.

They are quite different. The original is softer with a more distinct look, the new one is very sharp and more accurate when it comes to colour. Whilst I love the look of the original I would still pick the new one over it for its resolution, sharpness and reliability.

these are some pretty images, but the crop factor is very apparent here. ill admit it gives some of the shots an interesting and unique composition but a lot of the time i feel like im not seeing everything
@SamBatour
@SamBatour 5 жыл бұрын
What's the crop factor have to do with anything here? He's using the 12-35 which is equivalent to the 24-70. If he wanted wider videos, he can use wider lenses. Simple fix.
@whateverjustposting
@whateverjustposting 5 жыл бұрын
@@SamBatour i guess it comes down to personal preference but most of these shots seemed very cropped to me. Its only a simple fix if you have a wider lens to switch to. I understand that he could have easily swapped if it mattered to him which is where the personal preference comes in. To me they seem too tight (especially the shots in the plane) but for others it might be fine. If there were no crop factor the lens he was using would have worked fine (i understand a 12-35 is equivalent to 24-70 which is obviously why i made the comment)
