We all know that it’s what’s inside that counts. This has never been more true than with portrait painting.
My name is CaroIine Italia Carlson. I’m a professional artist, art instructor, podcaster, owner of a digital marketing firm, and creator of The Portrait Code, a new online portrait painting masterclass.
One of the struggles my students come to me with is how to paint the head as if it has volume. That’s why I’ve included a robust module on anatomy in The Portrait Code.
I’ll take you beneath the surface for a tour of the structure you need to understand to paint portraits. Rather than dreading anatomy, I encourage students to see these anatomy and proportion lessons for what they are: a roadmap. A solid understanding of the skeletal structure and musculature and muscle of the face is your roadmap to painting your best portraits, and to help you when you get stuck.
I designed this course to take the pain out of learning portraiture.
You may be looking to get a solid foundation in the basics of design and composition to give you more confidence as a portrait artist. Or you may just need a refresher. Either way, you can find entire modules devoted to the fundamentals of design, anatomy, composition, color theory, mixing non-muddy skin tones, and understanding perspective plus over two-dozen videos detailing every step of a portrait demonstration.
On top of that, I kick off this course with an eight-lesson module on confidence, because that turns out to be the number one challenge I see students struggle with. We’ll take on the topics of fear of getting started, fear of rejection, imposter syndrome, and more.
I created this course because I was frustrated that I couldn’t find all the foundational instruction in one place in a high-quality course, let alone a module addressing confidence for artists. So, I’ve pulled together all the concepts and information I’ve had to cull from dozens of sources over the years and built you a one-stop go-to course.
And I built the demonstrations with the viewer in mind.
You don’t have to watch me paint for hours listening to “dead air” or “muzak” to catch a snippet of advice here and there. The demonstration videos were made to save you from this exact frustration. You’ll get quality commentary throughout every demonstration.
Your time is valuable to me. And, I assume, even more valuable to you. If you’ve got time to take one course in portrait painting, I recommend this one. I built it for you.
