I am one of your supporters and a very satisfied one at that. You are MY greatest supporter by far!! ~ After a lifetime of painting, being an Art teacher for many years, Commercial artist also for many decades, but really never being satisfied with the excellence of my own work. I have been trying to get closer to the really big ones. I am informed about all the ins and outs of drawing and painting and made a good living with it. After having been able to encounter you in KZbin and receive some very wanted advice on uplifting my excellence (I never received a formal art training) I am ready to thank you for your help and dedication and above all helping me to achieve my goal! It is about time, I am 90 years old and now able 'retouch' older artwork of mine and not being ashamed of creations I am leaving behind. Thank you so much my friend!

Probably the best traditional instruction and artist on 'KZbin'. Always very articulate and explaining every stroke he makes.. Thank you .

Thank you so much for the real time verbal breakdown of your process. Your technique is very pragmatic and useful. I especially like in the beginning of the process when you talk about using mainly straight lines to simply capture the shapes and boundaries of the figure. I don't know if I've ever worked this way before but it makes sense! Now that I think of it, I've been using landmark dots to help me plot curves, but I think this technique will be a nice new approach to add to my strategies for constructing basic shapes. The vine charcoal also wipes away very easily and completely and I love that. I find subtraction to be a great way to work. As a teacher myself , I am inspired by you and will pass this knowledge on. Thanks again from Albuquerque!

I was fascinated watching this demo and found it extremely instructive. I have painted several portraits using the academic approach and enjoy its laid-back style. My variation is to paint my linear drawing direct upon the canvas rather than use a tracing but both work, Thank you so much for these wonderful, clearly explained, and well executed masterpieces tha you do for us.

Very nice portrait, it has life! I never realized before that sap green mixed with alizarin or cad red can make a much nicer brown tone than is available in a tube. Thank you!

You sure have given me more than several new ways to transfer drawings to canvas. I either draw portraits on paper. I use pastels paints. I did not realize a water mix a oil paint. Thank you very much for your tutorial.

Great work, but i draw directly on the canvas with charcoal. Any measuring or correction to be done I do it on the lightly toned canvas . But everything else as for the 3 stages I follow. What you have here is indeed the academic process. The deadlayer in white gives the subject a luminosity that show through the skin. The Flemish painters took the white under layer to another level. It was really nice to see the classical technique . Thanks yet again for your priceless advice. What I got from this that I can use is your advice on subtle changes in the relation between the plains. I like it when you say , " the zygamatic ". Lol. I really like the technical approach and the way you work with color , I'm terrible with color. 🙂👌

Would it be just fine to make an underpainting with burnt umber and titanium white and subsequently add layers of coloured glazes on top of the dryed brunaille?
@YupariArtist4 жыл бұрын
Yes! An under painting with T White and B umber is good! Also, I think I used W&N Artisan oil colors here. I don’t recommend that brand at all, this painting never completely dried after glazing with the Artisan Medium... I’ve deleted a lot of my old videos that used this brand 😅 Please watch my most recent video for information on higher quality oil colors!

Hello Yupari Artist! Hm I was wondering: you probably also paint from photographs sometimes. Do you have any thoughts on this? Use a tablet? What lighting etc....
@LynnePriceStudio3 жыл бұрын
Please don't delete his video. It's really too important to do so. You could add a disclaimer at the top? I despise W&N watermixable oils by the way. But I love Cobra and Grumbacher.

Why are you using zinc white with burnt umber instead of titanium white? because of its transparency?

It's easier to do the underpainting from a black-&-white photo, isn't it? You can see the values much better.

LegendaryVegan Gaming I hope it will serve him well ;) I like criticism when it helps me grow and that's what I try to give to others. I like what he does here in youtube. It's very useful to a lot of people. But he's got potential and he can reach a much better level. That's good to know, right? ;)
