Thanks to malcolm nott’s info I learn that the first pier at portreath was on the west side of the bay. Built by the basset family in 1713, the one we see today was built in 1760 to give them deeper water for bigger ships. Give your army boots a coat of neatsfoot oil mate! Will soften them up and waterproof them too. Any horsey shop will sell the oil.

Yes I've seen the Bassett baths on the beach I didn't realize there was a small pier on the other side of the beach That's very interesting
