Portsmouth to St. Malo - Bretagne - Overnight Ferry - UK to Bulgaria Road Trip - Part 2

We continue our epic road trip from UK to Bulgaria on the Portsmouth to St. Malo - Bretagne - Overnight Ferry - Brittany Ferries. We bought the cheapest BMW X5 on eBay and luckily the car can't break down whilst we enjoy the overnight ferry to St. Malo. We take a look around the ship and enjoy an evening meal as well as show you our cabin and get up early for breakfast in the La Baule restaurant before disembarking from the ship.

Beautiful Bretagne shes a stunning cruise ferry 👌👌👌. Very elegant and luxurious. You must try the commodore cabins next time 😊. Great video. Ive been sailing on Bretagne for 35 years now shes kept immaculate 😊

You made a good choice crossing in Bretagne she is a cruise ferry built in 1989 & is being retired this year she is in a class of her own & will be missed by many people like me who live in Portsmouth who have travelled on her many times, I’m really happy you enjoyed your time onboard 😊

That is sad to hear. I didn’t realise she was being retired. She does hold a special place in my heart too. I used to work on the Brittany Ferries web sites and used to see her name all the time. It’s only years later that I actually got to travel on her. I’m glad I managed it before it was too late.

@@emzfamily I believe her last ever crossing is November 3rd & I will try to make that crossing to say goodbye to her, I’m not sure if she will be deployed elsewhere in the Brittany Ferries fleet but I’m guessing she will be sold on due to her age 🥲

@@sdsferrodee yes more than likely sold on I guess. I have often looked up ships that I’ve seen on old documentaries etc as it’s fascinating to see what happened to them. Sometimes they are just living a new life. Sometimes they have been dismantled unfortunately. Hopefully the Bretagne will live on.

@@emzfamily I think she has a few more years in her with new owners probably in the Mediterranean like alot of our ships, I’m the same I like to see where ships have ended up & some I’ve even travelled on in their new lives, a lot of them have hardly changed inside just the new owners livery on the outside 😊

Terberg shunters are what you saw - and yes, lorries deliver full trailers to the departure port where shunters load them on to the ship(s). At the other end more shunters unload them and once import procedures are complete then hauliers send lorries, or more accurately the tractor units, to collect them for onward delivery. Very efficient, but no good for perishable items! No matter which port you use you will see that shunter drivers all appear to be either completely mad or unusually highly skilled (or possibly both).

Yeah they also delayed us getting on the ferry really. We only started boarding once they seemed to have finished. In other ports the lorries just drove off and we boarded quickly but I guess the boat must be smaller or this is a budget option of some kind. Very interesting to watch the guys swivel round and drive either way. Very cool.

i have been on every ferry of brittany ferries as ima truck driver im on n off ferries every week i know about rubbish food on them==dont have the scrambbled eggs they are full of cream i have fried eggs instead

I quite liked the cream in the scrambled eggs. I’ve certainly had worse at some resorts we’ve stayed at. I don’t think you can beat a proper buffet breakfast though which you get on DFDS.

Interesting route you have chosen so as reach Bulgaria. Any specific reason for this one?

We just wanted to go a different route to what we've done before really. We've been the the main route more times than we can count. We also had never been to Slovenia or Croatia before so that was also a big draw.
