I just moved back home to Portsmouth after a decade in Northern VA and 8 years abroad. Olde Towne is a lovely place to live. I'll take it every day over NoVa!!

Was always curious about this part of the country since I was born in Hampton and my parents lived I. Newport a while . All the while I spent most my life in North Florida . All got to say way different way . Woods rivers and trailers . In between PC and Tallahassee. Yeah

I’ve lived in Portsmouth 1976 to 1979.... It was so boring! In 1979, my family purchased a home in rural Chesapeake...... Continues to be so boring while, I was home from boarding school 1978-82. Until we were Glad all of us moved back to Texas in 1982. Sad to say that Portsmouth crime rate is higher in Virginia. I’ve learned that a Tower Mall (1973) is gone. Fine department stores where, I shopped is gone too. And others places have been razed and repurposed. Sad!

I agree, right now High street is the my favorite place to eat/drink. When I lived there everyone was buying houses and fixing them up..it slowed down after a while but this visit saw things improving. I am not a huge fan of the way the locals govern it, so many opportunities wasted, and the tolls do not help at all. But the people are amazing, kind and persistent in their love for Portsmouth. I share the passion and hope it can become the shining star I think it should be.

I was only in Portsmouth for a year and the Bier Garden was a staple. It may have been your first year. Say hi to mom, dad, Lee and Steph. Carl (formerly of Carl and Natalia).
