My husband is a fisherman and loves to be outdoors. I would love to give him a dog for his 35 birthday in January. How may we get in touch?

We have a moral obligation to end the overpopulation crisis in order to reduce the number of unwanted homeless dogs and cats. When people buy animals from breeders and pet stores instead of adopting from animal shelters, they deny a needy animal a chance at a good home. As long as people support a market that treats dogs and cats as profit-generating commodities, we will struggle with the overpopulation crisis.

Sure, but in reality, at least in Canada, its actually very hard to get a rescue dog. Many good, well intentioned families are denied regularly by rescue agencies, there is a whole process of paperwork/interviews that can take over a year (or more) to complete and there's still no guarentee, as the supply doesn't meet the demand. Plus, if you are a first time dog owner, have time constraints etc. adopting a dog from a shelter with potential behavioral/other issues is just not feasible, not everyone has the time, $ or ability to handle it. Also not every breeder views puppies as profit and you can do your research to find a reputable one that puts their puppies first.

Macie Fergal at the same time we have to preserve the breeds, so we need great breeders to be active.

dance fly. . So true I tried to adopt a PWD from Canada that was rescued from a puppy mill but they wouldn’t consider me because I lived in the States. The fact that I have had two PWDs didn’t matter. Not happy with how they work there.

Macie Fergal. Not to mention the valid reasons already posted my husband loves dogs but is very allergic to most. He can do PWDs and Havanese. We have one of each. This is our third PWD. We have nothing to apologize for. Not such a black and white issue as you indicate.

I know you posted a year ago, and to be fair to those of us who have tried to rescue a pure bred, my experience was the same as most. I needed a hypoallergenic pet and I tried to adopt from all over the US. I wasn't allowed to because I didn't live within the area of that particular rescue.
