Ciprian Porumbescu used to play this piece in prison where he was arrested due to accusation of treason (wich he didn't do) in Romania . The guards agreed to let him have a violin. He played violin bringing even serial killers and criminals to teas. He loved and played violin till his death at 29 yrs old. That's why this piece is so sad...he played what he was feeling, his emotions and sorrow. Really reccomend to watch the movie "The life of Ciprian Porumbescu ".

His name was Ciprian Golumbovski. Golumb means Porumbel in Romanian. He was Polish from Northern Bucovina than in Austro-Hungarian empire..He was brainwashed to join a conspirative organisation by a writer Ioan Slavici and was arrested in Cernowitz where he got ill of tuberculosis.. Romanian claimed him changing his name in Porumbescu.

@@corinavasile6829 That's not true. Despite his Polish name (Gołęmbiowski), his father was a Romanian Orthodox priest, only his mother was of Polish descent. The one who changes (translates) the Polish name into a Romanian name is his father, not Ciprian Porumbescu. Ciprian is just following him naturally. His active participation in the "Arboroasa" Society exempts us from questioning his nationality and cultural choice. On the other hand, Bukovinian Poles who were great Romanian have also met in history.
