'ROUTINE: PA AND PROFILE'
------------------------------------------------- ----------------
♦ PA:
►Patient Positioning
• Patient in orthostatic position, feet slightly apart, weight evenly distributed on both
the feet
• High chin, resting against the RI
• Hands on lower hips, palms out, elbows partially
flexed
• Previously rotated shoulders supported against the RI to allow the scapulae to move
laterally leaving the lung fields free; lowered shoulders to project collarbones
below the apexes
►Party Position
• Align the mid-sagittal plane in relation to the RC and the midline of the RI with equal margins between the
lateral chest and sides of the RI.
• Ensure that there is no chest rotation when positioning the mediocoronal plane parallel to the RI.
• Raise or lower the RC and RI as needed to the T7 level for the mean of patients (the
top of RI should be approximately 4 to 5 cm [1 ½ to 2 inches] above shoulders on average of
most patients).
►Central Radius
• CR perpendicular to IR and centered in the midsagittal plane at the level of T7 (18 to 20 cm or 7 to 8
inches below the vertebral prominence or at the lower angle of the scapulae)
• RC centralized at RI.
------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------
♦PROFILE:
►Patient Positioning:
• Patient in orthostatic position, left side against RI unless patient's complaint
wrap the right side (in this case, make a right profile if the service routine includes this option)
• Weight distributed evenly on both feet
• Arms raised above head, chin up
► Position of the Party:
• Center the patient in relation to CR and IR.
• Position in true profile (the coronal plane is perpendicular to the RI and the sagittal plane is
parallel to RI; see Note 1)
• Slightly lower the RC and RI in relation to the PA incidence, if necessary (See Note 2)
►Central Radius:
• CR perpendicular, directed to the mid-chest at the level of T7 (7.5 to 10 cm [3 to 4 inches]
below the level of the jugular notch).
DFOFI: 1.80
RI: 35x43 or 35x35
