In early 2020 just before the pandemic started, I saw these guys live in Cleveland, OH. Caleb opened up the crowd that he’d been struggling with suicidal thoughts, and believed at times that it would be better for him and everyone else if he just ended his life. That was the first and only time in my life that I’ve witnessed someone open up about having suicidal thoughts. To see him where he is now after that experience with him, it brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to this new music and see him smile. Saying that I’m happy for him doesn’t even begin to cover it.

This song has been on repeat for me since it came out! I adore Riptide but there’s a truth and happiness in the way Caleb sings this one that hits deeper for me. I can really feel the deep joy of it and that makes it addictive. I also really enjoy how he progresses from “couldn’t happen to me” to “could it happen to me,” subtly moving from denial to wonder. I am so, SO ready for this album!
