U can adjust the timing I didn't know this but u can grind a small slot where destributor meets block and it will allow for adjustment .guy did this on my s10 and it really woke it up advancing the timing a bit .

Where do you grind at
@wrenchhead282 жыл бұрын
You can adjust the distributor but you have to index the rotor to the mark on the distributor at TDC .There is a mark for the six cylinder and 8 Cylinder. Basically you are setting the cam sensor in the distributor to TDC. Since the distributor is non adjustable you will have to index the oil pump drive so the distributor rotor will line up with the mark on the distributor and the hold down bolt.

there's no timing adjustment on the distributor because the computer automatically adjusts timing. It uses the cam and crank sensors

So you don't have to line anything up on a 4.3? Just replace?

I wish it was easier to take these covers off. Id like to check mine. I think mine has skipped a few times because my truck runs but the distributor isnt lined up like it should be. At tdc the rotor is 90deg back from pointing towards the 6 but it runs.

Same, I offset my dizzy until it runs good (for few months) but then it jumps more teeth, misfires come back. I gotta do it right soon, or get rid of it... ('99 4.3 Blazer)

I believe that's a balance shaft not a knock damper. 4.3v6 is a copy of the 5.7 with the exception of pistons 5 and 6. with out it it will vibrate like crazy like the pre 94 4.3 did that dint have a balance shaft
@rockstone5313 Жыл бұрын
you don't have to pull the motor to get the oil pan off. just take the 2 motor mount bolts out and place a floor jack with a wide block of wood like a foot-long piece of 2x6 on top of the jack and place it under the lowest part of the oil pan under the flat section where the oil pump is. after you get the one on each side motor mount bolts out hack the motor up off the mounts as high as you need it to be to get clearance for the oil pan to drop down and come off. then place a short piece of 2x4 between the motor mount saddle and the motor mount and let the jack down letting the motor sit on the 2x4s. then you can take the jack out and remove the oil pan easily. After you replace the oil pan put your jack back under it jack it up and remove the 2x3 blocks letting the mounts drop back down in the saddles, Put the 2 bolts back in and your done.

Incorrect info... Thats called a balance shaft! Has nothing to do with knocking... The previous 4.3 motors had no balance shafts and customers complained of vibrations from the eng. So they designed a balance shaft, to counteract the vibration that these V6 motors have. Also, no need to fully remove oil pan. Just lossen the bolts and let the front drop down enough to install the timing chain cover

Question- My cam sensor keeps coming on and off and I want to know if that timing chain on my 2005 GMC 4.3 is the reason? It has 260k miles on it.

@@520dblock3you need a new distributor, get an aftermarket one with aluminum housing, comes with a new camsensor

You'll never be able to get it to stop leaking for long unless you drop the pan and fix it right, even then it's iffy. This is a legacy design issue from Gen 1 SBC's that are the parent to the 4.3 V6. eventually, they all leak there. Don't even bother with silicone, you'll never get it clean enough to stick. Try Yama-bond or other motorcycle case sealant. Make sure you get the timing chain tensioner* and put it on there too. *another GM cluster F.

my 1998 Bravada just started acting up after the intake manifold gaskets and fuel regulator was changed out,I tried the cam shaft sensor which made no effect.oddly enough it's just shy of 160,000,so maybe I need to check the chain.
