It's a quick-and-easy-ish starting point for a whole host of fancy-looking desserts. The main thing to remember when making it is that you want to keep stirring the whole time it's cooking in the pan! 🍳While learning, also be sure to buy enough ingredients to make several batches. This way you can experiment and figure out what works in your kitchen (and play with forming it into different shapes to see how they look when they puff up)! 😎

For anything you bake, be sure you have everything planned out before anything gets wet, because the moment wet touches dry, everything is set into motion. Unlike cooking where you can use rough measures and continually change things up as you go in a lively display of passion, in baking everything is sensitive to the slightest changes. Heat, moisture, and even the circulation of air in the kitchen all affect your finished goods. I feel that baking regularly gives you a much better understanding of exactly how your kitchen itself shapes the foods it produces.

I know how to cook, but I'm not the "dancing with the flames in a display of gastrological passion" type, just the "I have a vague sense of the recipe, so I'll slap together some stuff until it tastes good" type. That's the Asian in me. No measurements, only vibes. Great for on-the-fly cooking, but not so much baking 😅 I've got a few friends who like baking and I'm always ogling their baked goods. I feel that even without becoming the best baker in the land, there’s a lot you can learn by feel and through simple practice. It just requires a lot of repetition to develop that intuition. Like, you develop a sense of how much sauce or spice to toss into your food because it comes up quite often in cooking whether at home or in a professional kitchen. But if you only bake a cake once or twice a year, then it takes much longer to learn what consistency the batter should be or how much icing it’ll need! 😄 There are a few different things I enjoy baking! Muffins and quickbreads like banana bread or coffee cake are some of my favorites to serve guests. 😊 The King Arthur Baker’s Companion was a very helpful for learning how to make them consistently, I’m rather fond of their “All-Star Muffin” recipe. With more time to pre-plan, like you I’m also a fan of the yeast breads! Simple rolls and sandwich bread loaves are something I like to make because the process of kneading the dough feels very relaxing. They are not quite as flavorful as say, a good sourdough or the rustic no-knead boules that gained popularity recently, but I like that the same basic yeast dough used in them can be shaped in all sorts of ways and be enhanced with all sorts of extra spices. When the season is right, a good fruit galette is a fun and tasty treat to make! Personally I like making mine in a toaster oven and reheating the haphazard slices later on for a quick breakfast or late-night snack. They’re a little weird-looking, but I like how convenient they are to make! 😁 Of course, I have to mention the humble pie! I’d consider it the bridge between cooking and baking, as the crust can handle a little roughness if you remember to keep everything as cold as you can while working on it. Where it really shines though is in its ability to handle hot or cold fillings, sweet or savory, and to do so while only adding the slight taste of salt to each bite. It’s an excellent accompaniment to nearly any saucey center you could fill it with! 😊 Of course, I’m glossing over so many wonderful types of surprisingly simple baked goods like drop biscuits, tarts, angelfood cake, pull-aparts, and so on! But I suppose I don’t have enough space (or time) to write about everything I’ve come across! 😄

Anyway, it's interesting how a story concept like this could take such a lighthearted and somewhat wholesome approach. Idk, I like that type of interpretation of this kind of story a fair bit. It's also interesting when the roles of the characters end up counteracting their personalities. The monster being the humane one, and (one) human being the monsterous one.
