I'm staggered this kind of performance is possible on a stock Spectrum, even with the most optimized machine code. This is majestic.

The spectrum was my 2nd computer... After the zx81.... You'd be typing off listings from "computer magazines" which were little more than an assembly of photocopied pages by a bunch of nerds.... Good times. The computer was bound to the TV which was huge and could not be taken to the lake on your push bike. No mobile phones. If you missed the group you'd have to search and improvise. I don't know just how we all survived. 🤔🙄🤣😂

The neat thing about spectrum demos is that everything is software. There are no custom hardware tricks to exploit... Unless you can do something interesting with color bleed?

Impressive but what does "48K compatible" mean and which platform was this recorded from? I'm curious as I'm a fellow coder on the 48K but "compatible" could mean so many things.
@scp007waw Жыл бұрын
It was recorded on 128K. Each part is '48K compatible', that means that each part separately can be run on 48k machine (without music) producing 100% same visual effect.

I'll wager the Commodore 64 would struggle to replicate this demo, it looks quite CPU and maths intensive, with lots of pixel level effects :)
@litjellyfish2 жыл бұрын
At least for the pixel level stuff I think the drawing code could not be possible on the c64. Although if this is a 128k demo a lot of the math stuff could just be precalculated so leaving most all CPU for the drawing code
@jakubhusak1624 Жыл бұрын
@@litjellyfish Three cpu opcodes for single pixel set and get next pos of pixel on Z80. Undoable on Atari XL/XE; if worked would be almost two times slower as it takes 7 cpu opcodes for single pixel and pos change.
@nlk2947 ай бұрын
The 6502 is generally faster than the Z80 and you have more support from the hardware. I'd say it would be possible on a C64.
