I left Scotland 15 years ago to teach English in Tokyo. The difference is night and day. Japan is safe, clean, no potholes, no 2 weeks wait to see a doctor, not waiting 2/3 years on the NHS for a hip operation. In stark contrast Tokyo has over 20, 000 24 HR convenience stores, 30, 000 bars, 263 Michelin star restaurants, trains ever 5 mins and regarding the doctor surgery, just walk in and wait your turn. I am embarrassed to say this as a Scot but Japan is premier league and Scotland is 3rd division. During my time in Tokyo I have never paid more than 400 pounds per month in rent for my own apartment and I do not have to share with anyone. I love you Scotland but I just couldn't move back there anymore. The grass is greener on the other side.

No potholes where I live- when I need a GP appointment I call at 8am and get one- my local area is clean, quiet and the air quality is second to none- after years in London, Berlin and Groningen I could not wait to return. The grass isn’t greener on the other side. People like you that move away are always so quick to be negative about Scotland/ The UK. You’re so predictable .

As a gas engineer, I worked all over Glasgow for nearly 3 years, 90% of which in the various schemes, and was never once mistreated by a house holder. Despite their respective challenges, pretty much all were polite and friendly. Possilpark was the most obviously deprived area, though!

Great channel Billy and you’ve just got a new subscriber! I grew up in Glesga (Springburn, Gorbals and the East End) in the 70s, 80s and 90s and had a lot of family in Posso and the Milton. I can assure you that it looks much better now than it did back in the day like all the schemes in Glasgow! Of course it still has all the same social problems caused by the miserable cycle of poverty and crime and a lot of that is caused by generations of people in various addictions. I believe that part of the reason why Glasgow’s better than it used to be is because there’s so much recovery especially a multitude of 12 step programmes. There are now generations of recovering addicts and alcoholics who grew up in these schemes living productive lives. A lot of them still live in the schemes where they grew up and are part of the general improvement of the places. I’m not in denial about the damage that the tories have done to these communities in the last 14 years but all I’m saying is that if you’d have visited the Glesga schemes 20 odd years ago, some of them were on another level! Keep up the good work Bill carrying a positive message whilst highlighting the grim realities of Tory Britain🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😁

Recovery groups are amazing but. Let's stop people having to run the mad gauntlet from the very beginning. Countries with better community facilities and social contract combined with more realistic drug policy. Namely Netherlands and Spain . Portugal from a more public health perspective probably have less Recovery meetings combined than the West of Scotland. Simply because there is less demand due to more nuanced approaches. Including taxing drig sales for treatment programmes from abstinence based 12 steps to same day Opioid replacement and safer consumption facilities. I absolutely agree that Recovery groups are strength for people but it is in a mileu of sparse desolation compared to other European countries.

And FAR from The Worst Estate Back in Those Days. Glasgow was FULL of Estates that were ‘OOA’ or Out of Area, which Meant Only The Royal Mail Could Deliver as it was a Mandatory 5 Year Sentence for Attacking ‘Her Majesty’s Mail’ back Then. Off the Top of Ma Heid, Out of Area: 1) Toryglen-Prospecthill Circus Scheme 2) Barrowfield 3) Maryhill-The WHOLE Area. I Do Think We Delivered to Possil and Possilpark. Runs 21 and 22, but Let Me Ask one of My Aulder Former Colleagues. As I’m VERY Aware Saracen Street was WILD back Then as a Close Family Member is in The Police and it was NOT a Favourite Posting. I Do Recall a ‘Hibs Supporters Bus’ Coming Unstuck back from Firhill at The Traffic Lights next to that Pub I’m Sure, when ‘The Young Team’ Attacked It. It’s MUCH Quieter Nowadays with a Large Chinese Population. ‘One of My Younger Kids’ Goes to The Primary School over The Hill from Where The Lads on The Quad Bikes Were. While it's easy to point fingers at local councils for the deprivation we see, the core issues often stem from the actions and attitudes of the people themselves. A stronger sense of community and personal responsibility could address many of these problems, however, due to the rising poverty and the relentless barrage of globalism that is creating more division and weakening our local communities, these issues are only going to get worse - The UK is fucked.

Me and a pal would go rummaging as kids around the area- there was always stuff to find in the back courts. We'd go explore the canal basin down past the old ABC factory . We'd play kick the ba' on St Teresa's slope, one priest used to chase you- another would join in the kick around. The Possilpark library is a true gem of a building- (as is the old Askit factory...) It has 5 hand painted murals depicting Science; Literature; Poetry etc- all done pre first world war. I still visit it when i pass through the area. As a kid, I recall a lot of drunks and fights spilling from the pubs- I would be too young to realise any sort of drug deals going on. I don't recall either, the area being known as Possoe... Possul certainly. But I guess every generation creates a it's own identity- a wee bit like the old Blackhill crew who would tell ye: Ah'm fae The Garngad.... I remember buying my first records from a shop on Saracen St- can't recall the name. Castles Maybe, or was that in Springburn? The walk back up Stonyhurst St hill seemed forever- however there was a wee corner shop up there - Carties, and sometimes the Black Mariah van would appear selling staples like bread, milk and cheese. This is a wee bit removed from most of the reminisces on here I guess, but I had fun times. Hari

Dunno you Billy, but your style of reporting is reality. The main stream media doesn't represent any truth for normal people. You were accepted in Glasgow because people treat people as they want to be treated. The same as Liverpool. I lived on Shiel Road in the Newsham park guest house for a year. Exactlt the same. People were not rich but respected each other. No liberties. Love your content. Keep it real mate🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

Good to hear some passion Bill when you mentioned the government and councils it's sickening but if we all pull together we won't need them. There is a saying, 'Be the change you want to see in the world' councils and governments are too busy dividing and trying to control it's people hence the reason why we are where we are. And now they have turned their attention to housing and funding clothing and feeding others to drive the final dagger into their own people.

I'm sick and tired of people blaming the local councils and government. I don't have a dog in this fight as I don't work for either one. But in this video I clocked a purpose built lovely new build health centre. Outside was a smashed bus shelter. So who the fuck smashed it? A council worker? No. The government? No. Then I saw housing that you can tell had recently went through a redevelopment plan. New windows, external cladding etc. Again that's the council finances that did this for the people in the housing. Then it skips to Billy showing rubbish and a fucking sofa which was fly tipped. Who did that the council? No. You get FREE uplifts nowadays. No excuses. I like Billy he is a good bloke it seems and this is no slant on him, but I grew up in poverty and to this day I work with those marginalized by society and in financial hardship so I have many years anecdotal evidence to have my say. The local community needs to take responsibility themselves and stop exculpating and blaming councils and everyone else. It's BS and deep down the locals fucking know it. It's down to them why the areas get run down and it's down to them why people get murdered. Personal ownership. They need to learn it at grass roots level. It's just never going to improve or be fixed if we keep peddling the unhelpful value base narrative of it's everyone else's fault. Poor me poor me. Blah blah. It's so low resolution thinking.

Manchester born and mostly bred. i Love Scotland and the Scots, great people and great place. lived there for the second half of first year back in eighty three when i was eleven. there was another English lad went to the same school and he got bullied something rotten whilst i got left alone even made a few friends although i still managed to learn what prejudice feels like. i put the fact i didn't get physically bullied down to two things, one we lived in a touring caravan parked on a local park so maybe they probably thought we were more pikey than English and two, big Sister Vicky is hard as nails she never lost a fight when we were growing up. haven't seen her since she turned sixteen i only Hope she got a grip on her temper as she grew into adulthood and had kids of her own. another thing i learned at school in Scotland having just done "bonnie prince charlie" from start to finish in Manchester before we moved north i did it again there from start to finish and so the lesson was that history as taught to us in school is propaganda and no more than that. but yh i do Love Scotland, and i don't think i ever met a Scot living in England that i didn't like, great people, salt of the earth...
