The main distinction that needs to be made is it's not 48 months of post-9/11. Still 36 months of one and 12 months of the other benefit (MGIB or Post-9/11).

@RyanRoberts-c1z the same question I have, because I have used my additional 12 months 9/11 for a total of 48 months. Does this new benefit mean I get 12 more???

@@bluetrees6388 The maximum under one benefit is still 36 months. If you have more than one benefit, the max is 48 months. Nothing will let you go over 48 except voc rehab. If you have a disability rating, I would apply for voc rehab.

Remember the name is now Veteran Readiness and Employment, same program just got a name change. Your best bet is to use VRE but at the same time inquire as there are exceptions to the fact that if you could have been using your VRE instead of your GI Bill it can be reimbursed, but that happens in limited cases. But VRE otherwise is the way to go, but need to be Eligible for it.

I cannot find an explanation for 'qualified periods' anywhere, not even the link VA provides specifically titled that doesn't explain it. I was active duty 5 year contract USMC '99-'04. I paid into Montgomery G.I. Bill. I ended up using Post 9-11 G.I. Bill for a Bachelors. I don't want to apply yet, but would like to find out if I qualify.

www.va.gov/education/eligibility/ so this is the link I found with the Rudisill Supreme Court Desicion, which is still pretty vague. I'm going to have to look more into the decision to see if there is more clarification. But with the change, they will eventually post it into a bill or act to have it securely in writing with its specifics.

It is additional months that contain the same benefits. Just need to be eligible for it, but yes provides the same benefit.
