Alien Biospheres was a great series, definitely one of the best long running video series I've had the pleasure of watching. Definitely something you should be proud of. Personally I tend to prefer longer form content than shorter videos so waiting a while isn't a problem for me. Perhaps when you have finished a few other planets, would you ever consider compiling it all into a book to be published? I think a lot of people would be interested in that.

Question about Alien Biospheres. Two actually. What is your favorite alien design wise? And what was your balance between ‘I want this alien to look cool’ and ‘I want this alien to be as biologically accurate as possible even if it looks a little doofy’ since it’s something I often struggle with when designing aliens
@alecfoisy582 ай бұрын
I personally don't care if a speculative creative looks a little doofy as long as it's biologically accurate. There's plenty of real life animals that look a LOT more doofy than even most spec creatures.
@roggind2 ай бұрын
"The difference between fact and fiction is that fiction must make sense." It's a common trend between spec evo, conlangs, and any other fictional worldbuilding that things are much simpler than reality. Basically, as long as there's some sort of logic, you really can do whatever you want.
@bustavonnutz2 ай бұрын
@@alecfoisy58 That's always been my chief gripe with spec evo; too much of it is fantastical to the point of being nonsensical.
@moej93432 ай бұрын
depends on your design intention ofc but imo the best way to go about it is "emergent design". don't intentionally try to make something cool, let the active principles and constrains of the system guide the design. be it an organism, a building, an object, design is design. edit : oh and nw you will end up making it cool anyways ;)

I have a lot to say for Alien Biospheres. How it's by far one of the best speculative evolution projects known to man. How its art, pacing, and direction is on par with the best professional documentary series. How the community it formed over the years have gone on to make incredible works of their own. But to me, I'll always appreciate it for being a comfort show I could enjoy during lunch periods in college. Those years of my life were next to nothing but constant work, competition, and stress, but when I could just put in my ear buds and watch this series on my phone while enjoying a sandwich, that was seriously the highlight of some of my days. Thank you so much for this incredible series. You're the best.

@idle_speculation2 ай бұрын
A few Alien Biospheres questions off the top of my head: 1. Are there any gyrinotheres which frequent marine/estuarine habitats, perhaps in the vein of sea otters, pinnipeds, or saltwater crocodiles? 2. How are predators able to get so big in current, post-extinction ecosystems? No predatory mammal gets that big, and it’s for almost purely ecological reasons that also exist on Tira as of the present day; namely the prevalence of strong k-selection in the majority of large animals. Whereas a large dinosaur or euonychodont could easily snack on unattended hatchlings between kills, a similarly-sized anaxothere or elaphrodont would have much less luck trying to eat the young of a megantroform or teleopsid, which are both fewer in number and much more difficult to catch, at least without serious injury. My guess is that they use their ancestral facultative endothermy to slow down their metabolism between hunts.

And if you’re going for the space travel route, are you planning on having the different worlds meet each each other? Suggestions : I think for each video you could probably talk about around 6 to 10 life forms (both plants likes and animals) Extra note: I have been watching your series since the very beginning! I'm excited to see the refresh of the starter conlang series! I've shared the old one with some writing friends before, and they were a bit intimidated by it, so I'm excited to see how you do this new one. And I for one was very impressed with the alien biosphere series. I've shared it around a lot, and it definitely doesn't get enough attention. I know that the nature of researching stuff for that makes you aware of how deep the topic goes, but at the very least, you made me and others aware of many concepts in biology that I wouldn't have learned about otherwise, so even if it's not perfectly accurate, or perfectly comprehensive, it's still helped educate people. I look forward to seeing where your channel goes from here!

I've enjoyed few series as much as I have enjoyed Alien Biospheres. Genuinely such a brilliant introduction and deep dive into speculative evolution. And the passion you've poured into this has molded such a strong and supportive community that few creators have ever managed to achieve. I don't think many of us really mind the super long videos and how long they take to make outside of you own mental wellbeing of course. Burnout is a very hard thing to get through and MANY creators run into it at 30 Miles per hour hoping to break through it only to be left more burnt out then they were. Take your time and if ya need to YES we all would LOVE shorter more frequent videos if you need a break from the long form content. and hey sometimes all you really need is a good hiatus to start enjoying these types of things again. I'm excited to see the direction this channel continues to grow in! I've loved your work since the beginning, Biblaridion, and you were the inspiration for me to get into conlanging. You're easily one of my favorite KZbinrs. Questions for Q&A: Refugium: - What are some of the most important historical moments in the Refugium? Which culture has the most fleshed-out history? - In what specific ways have the Essences influenced the Refugium's history (e.g. revolutions, coups, social change)? Which Essences have been the most powerful or influential? - Do you have particularly interesting characters from the Refugium? Like whom? - If you lived in the Refugium, which of the Essences would you practice and why? - How widespread is common knowledge of magic in the refugium? Do most actually believe it's real? Are scholars aware of the Essences and their qualities and effects? - Are there any factions of ideologies that oppose the Essences altogether? (If it's not clear, I think the magic system of the Refugium is brilliant, and it raises so many fascinating questions for storytelling). Conlanging: - How do you make decisions for a conlang's gramar and vocabulary informed by the conspeakers' culture or a theme you have in mind for the language? - What's your best advice for making sure the different grammatical features within a conlang mesh together well instead of being disconnected? - Hypothetically, there are grammatical structures and patterns that could exist in human languages that have yet to evolve naturalistically. When making a conlang, how do you balance original, unusual grammatical features with the need for naturalism? Are there other ways of confirming new features are naturalistic aside from natural precedent? - Are you planning to do any more linguistics feature focus videos in the future? If so, which topics would you still wanna cover? - Do you think conlanging and worldbuilding are forms of art? Why or why not?

While I do enjoy speculative biology, I'm an absolute sucker for fantasy/sci-fi species cultures and how they might differ from ours, namely how their government, architecture, and day-to-day lives would be like in their equivalent of the modern 21st century and how their biology/history affects their philosophy, technology, and even how they conduct war. I really hope to see more of this in the future.

The refugium is so interesting I hope you do more of that. I really enjoyed alien biospheres though.

I still think there was potential for a video about Domestication and it's impact but it was still an awesome series and I loved it, thank you very much for your hard work.

Tira-292B has been by far my absolute favorite speculative evolution project ever made, hearing you say that not only is there more to discuss about this planet, but also that you're gonna be going into the biology of other types of planets, makes me more excited than anything I've ever been excited about while existing on this plane of reality.

Love your stuff. Was happy to make art for part 15 as well. Question: do you ever plan on making any non-KZbin speculative biology projects? Like a book or something of that nature?

Absolutely loved the Alien Biospheres series! So glad you kept with it, still gets me excited exploring an alien biosphere, following its development while still learning about biology, thanks! 100/10!

Q&A: What inspired you to make the Refugium such a unique world with things like a stationary sun and its 6 moons, or the fact that some clades of flora and fauna are either things that have gone extint in our world or that never existed, etc. There are so many interesting concepts here and I'd love to know what inspired these ideas and/or what your thought process was when coming up with them!

Alien biospheres was my main inspiration for my own very different speculative biology. It’s not nearly as good, but I’m still very happy with it nonetheless.

Question for the Q&A: How do you make fonts for your conlang scripts? More specifically, what font creation program do you use, how do you make the images for the characters themselves, and how would you make a font for a script like Arabic? Your videos are great and I look forward to seeing what you make in the future!

I am curious about how you made the alien designs was it Blender? If you can go over how you did it, that would be awesome!

I started writing a book because of this series. It showed me a big project is allowed to take it's time, honestly you got it done in perfect time my brother!

Yes, I would love to see you return up conlanging. I was toying around with making a language for the neotects myself, and I’d love to see what you come up with. Will you ever consider returning to the refugien? Your videos and edun nakachti and ilothwi are still some of my favorite videos of all time, and I would love some more conlang showcases from that world, even my conlangs that I’ve put hours into don’t compare to those at all. Also are you ever gonna write that book?
