The narrator is so good that was able to put me into the story so focus…. Great story as well
@jeremybr20206 ай бұрын
Just starting, only 48 minutes in. Sounds like really good narration. I've listened to countless zombie audiobooks even though they always frustrate me to no end. The characters in it always seem to lack any common sense. How long could it possibly take for people to realize that only head shots are effective? Even if you weren't thinking zombies, you would have to think body armor or something. So....go for the head shot. And what is it about all these zombie stories that have these slow shambling zombies, yet they always somehow manage to get right on you and overtake you. It seems simple, if you see a large number of zombies, you don't stick around, you run. And as long as there are only a few, how hard could it be to simply dodge in between them and run 40 or 50 yards away and start firing. They start to get close again, and by close I mean when they get 30 yards away, and there's still plenty of space between them, run another 50 yards away and continue firing. Yet, inevitably these people will fire at them at a distance, but they never move, and next thing you know, they are being surrounded, as if they couldn't see that they needed to change positions. I suppose the fact that this is a story of fiction, might have something to do with it. Its a zombie story.....people gotta make terrible decisions and they gotta die.
@The_OneManCrowd5 ай бұрын
Side streets, behind you. The more you retreat, the more fill the streets. Just stay out of the city, period.
@jeremybr20205 ай бұрын
@@The_OneManCrowd Yeah, in a zombie apocalypse, staying out of the cities is zombie survival 101. Reading my original post, it occurred to me that the narrators changed after book 1. The first one was better. The second is OK I guess. I've heard worse. My only real complaint was this.....When the narrator is voicing a older male character, when he yells, he does sound like a screaming 70 year old man. But when a younger man yells, he sounds like a screaming 70 year old man. And when a female yells.....she sounds like a screaming 70 year old man. lol Not much range there.

Good narration, good story, albeit a bit too "Greek Classic" for my taste, as I would put it. What I mean with that is that it felt a bit like those old classics where a character more or less aimlessly wanders around, just driven by a vague end goal to come home to his family and stumbling from one self-contained, episodic adventure to the next, running into random characters that have little influence on the rest of the story. I guess it is realistic and it works for a Zombie story.

All the daft tropes this genre uses, plus a lack of common sense from the protagonist. The narration is quite good, good inflection, a human narrator. I'll stay with this beyond this 90 minutes mark in case the protagonist actually learns from his experience in his early arc. I'll hope the writer allows the character arc an appropriate progression. I will say the structure of the story is quite well formulated however, this with the quality narration is holding interest. It remains the protagonists story too, doesn't jump around. Some weird out of place racial morality bs thrown in a couple places near the end; very very out of place. But on the whole it was worth my time.

I started listening to audiobooks while at work. I have a lot of down time. Anyway, I'm a zombie fan. I listened for a while, hoping it wasn't a good story that I couldn't stand listening to because of awful A.I. narration. However, the main character and others don't get hungry, don't pack food and medicine or change they're clean up and change they're clothes, even when they clear their house of zombies. Getting guns and ammo was at least something. Overall, it was a great story. I looked forward to some down time and get a chapter or two in. 😊

This guy ends up in situations through sheer stupidity an,d then escapes through fantastic luck. The scene at the church takes the cake. It requires a combination of zombie-level brain-dead decisions and coincidences to develop. So this guy and his pal run into the obligatory church filled with survivors by accident. So he aims to move on to find his family and is about to leave when he changes his mind and goes into the church for no reason. There, he runs into a group of armed men guarding a group of sick survivors who tell him to leave. Instead of going as he means to do, he tells them to lower their guns, which one refuses to do, of course. And precisely at this point, a bunch of the sick people turn zombie, including, of course, the wife of one of the armed men, who then refuses to shoot her but instead turns hostile. It is clear that the writer wanted a church scene, but instead of some clever writing, he uses luck, stupidity, and coincidence to make the scene happen. And this church scene is just one example.

I know thats right! The one thing you can count on in any apocalyptic situation is that only two kinds of people survive, thugs and stupid people. Of course, this ensures a short-lived post apocalypse. I've not read or heard about a novel that goes all the way to the inevitable end. Maybe I'll write that one...
