A year later, this is my first time watching this post game... I still haven't brought myself to watch the game... Painter handled himself with absolute class, and I am glad to see the team fight this year to get the opportunity again. I really hope they come out with a killer mentality, and leave no doubt in the first game this year (and through the entire tournament)!

Coach is a gift for Purdue - he did not hide from the loss to FDU, was gracious in his praise for them in defeat and made sure the press had ample opportunity to ask questions. I'm a proud Boilermaker and love the fact we've had two great men leading this program through most of my life.

Coaches can’t make shots but coaches can make adjustments and this clown 🤡 absolutely refuses. Never attacks a press to score, never plays a zone, never plays big, always 3 guards. I’d fire him on Monday. I’m done with Purdue basketball as long as Painter is the coach.

You b#tches would talk sh!t no matter what the scenario . What if those 3s were going down like they were early in the season against Marquette, Duke and The Zags? The Freshmen back court played like freshmen today and with Edey being triple teamed they needed to hit the outside shot and couldnt. Next season starts now, and our guards need to hit the gym and come back with a vengeance like that 2018 Virginia team. Blaming others instead of seeing what needs to be worked on and improved is toxic for Athletes and Fans.

Wow Larry you really cracked the code here. Let’s go ahead and fire our coach who continues to lead us to big 10 championships. Great job Larry! I just have one question for you, why aren’t you out there coaching purdue? I’m just going to assume it’s because you aren’t as good as Painter. Matt won us 3 championships this year. THREE championships. Go ahead and keep commenting about how badly you want him to go. I’m sure Purdue will take your suggestions one of these days.

I agree. Purdue grad here too. Something needs to change, hard and fast. Painter's coaching has no adaptability, is rarely creative under adversity, and regularly loses momentum in the second half. I watched him walk across campus daily when he played with the Big Dog, and it's tough to suggest he should be replaced. He has to learn to run different offense. His big forwards should have been able to score. What a disappointment.

@Liz G. at the time, there were several experienced coaches available but Purdue, with Gene's backing, decided to go with Matt. How many championships has Purdue lost due to this decision? Honestly, Matt was not a very good player during his college years, and his coaching skills are lacking. The other conferences are stepping up their games and coaching staffs. Purdue needs to do the same!

I remember meeting Matt right after he was hired for that one year coach in waiting while I was walking past Mackey to the Ross-Ade lot. The first 3/4 of his tenure was: What if Hummel wasn't injured?, What if he recruited that last top prospect missing piece?, What if Biggie stayed 1 more year? What if UVA didn't hit that shot? The last 3 years were North Texas, St. Peters, and now the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history. Anyone who calls this year a success should start a campaign to just not go to the NCAA tournament because Painter's teams don't show up anyways.

A few biased comments I've read in the past week concerning Matt Painter from local and national reporters. Comment: Matt Painter is a "brilliant" basketball mind. Answer: REALLY, do brilliant basketball minds lose to a 17th, not 16th seed in the first round? Comment: Matt Painter will hopefully learn from his mistakes and make adjustments this year. Answer: We have heard this for nearly 18+ years. Where are the changes and the improvements? Comment: The players need to shoot better, be tougher, and follow Matt's plans. Answer: WHAT??? It is the coaching staffs job to have the players prepared and ready for each game. If this wasn't the case, why pay for a head coach and staff? Comment: Matt Painter is doing fine, we won the Big10, Mackey is full every year, and no other coach can be as "classy" and still win. His contract runs through 2025, so let's give him a chance. Another coach would take several years to accomplish what Painter has done. Answer: REALLY!!! It has already been 18+ years, and we are more embarrassed than ever. Mackey is always at capacity and will be because of the Purdue faithful. I personally fly in annually with a smile on my face to root for the "BLACK & GOLD." This will be our year, and we're going to the final four, Painter will make some adjustments, he'll listen to my advice as I yell from the stands. I then leave the game in defeat, crying on the plane ride home asking, "Why can't Painter change and have these young men ready for every challenge?" Why, because he is Painter! There are many young coaches and veterans who have been chomping at the bits to lead this Purdue program. I am personally disappointed we let Iona grab FDU coach Tobin Anderson. He led "supposedly" the smallest team in the country over our "Boilers." Imagine what he could have done with our current roster! It is time to buy out Painter's contract and move on. Or do we want to continue to be the "laughing stock" of the NCAA and Big10?

Twenty years ago, Edey would be a number 1 draft pick, with the new NBA, he would be a late 2nd round pick that would end up overseas playing. I really enjoyed the season, but the guys played scared. You could see it in the first 5 to 7 minutes that they sensed were in trouble. I hate to say it because they were largely such a joy to watch all season, but they played tight and afraid. They lacked confidence and poise and toughness. Fear of losing and loss aversion is greater than joy of winning. Unfortunately, it seemed to me that they played in fear.

All year the offense is 1-2 dimensional. Give it to edey and hit the open 3s as they come while playing good defense. When it doesnt work theres no change going into the 2nd half. I just for once want to see when shots arent going down Purdue changes up the offence. Drive the ball and go to the free throw line or run something new. I would have love to see Renn get on the floor more the 2nd half as he has a great post game and wouldnt have gotten doubled and more pick and rolls or drive and dish. Anything different when obviously by a minute into the 2nd half things were never going to work from the original game plan. This is where I blame Paint. I love him but in the big games he needs to take some risks rather than assume his guys are going to get it going.

@@oldsklrt1 , well you can look at the glass half empty if you choose. The way I see it, they were up against 67 other excellent teams. Painter is working with a young squad. His & the other NCAA coaches situation is that they have the arduous task of starting over every year or two with almost half or more of a new squad, many of them totally inexperienced. It typically takes the best coaches in the world in the NBA a minimum of 2 to 3 years and often several years with excellent experienced teams to have them learn the system well enough & bond just to compete for a Championship. How many teams won their division's season, followed by their division Championship this year? Even more impressive when nobody gave them a chance of achieving that at the beginning of this season. Quite an accomplishment! Losing one close game & getting eliminated from the March Madness does not take away from their extremely successful season. You can be as disappointed as you choose to be; but if you step back & look at the big picture, Matt Painter did a terrific job with this squad & Purdue fans are fortunate to enjoy so much success. Very few teams have that good fortune.

HOWEVER, for PURDUE, it was another great season, Purdue won the big 10 championship, won the big 10 tournament, got a 1 seed, had the national player of the year. Purdue wasn't even projected to make the tourney with their roster. Instead they were ranked the number 1 team in the country for 8 weeks, tied the most of anyone in America. Only 1 of the 68 teams who make the tournament win it all. All 67 other teams will lose. Doesn't matter if it's first round or national championship, unless you win it all, it doesn't matter. Tell me who made the final 4 seven years ago, you can't! You can tell me national champions tho, if you remember. No intellectual cares about losing in the semi-finals aka "making it to the final four" - we don't hang a banner for that in any other sport or league. It means nothing, still a loser. You see nba teams losing in the eastern conference finals hanging a "final four" banner? At least purdue won 2 championships this year when they were supposed to win 0. TJD will leave IU with 0 trophies/rings. Purdue was champions. Want proof? You're on a purdue channel. Purdue fans don't hang out on IU channels. Cuz purdue is the big brother, has been for past decades I've been alive.
