PSA: You can not shatter skate if you have the " Full auto melee" setting on, you must turn it off. I don't know why it changes it, but I could not figure out why it wasn't working for me. But when I turned the setting off, I got it consistently right away

Maybe something changed, because I know for a fact that it was blocking shatterskate, it wasn't working for me, and 3 of the people I know and right when we all turned the setting off it worked instantly. I also told this to someone on another comment section and it solved the problem for them and some of the other people in the replies. So unless bungie changed something, it was 100% an issue. Maybe try shatterskate? I'm really not sure. Thx for the video though, I learned a lot

@@ethanjolleyy Oh that is odd, Shatterskate seems to be the only one affected by this, as far as I'm aware. Strand skating gave me a similar issue even with auto-melee off, but that's just a technique/timing issue rather than a weird interaction like it is for Shatter

Shatterskate and Wellskate still work with Auto-Melee on, but Shatterskate's timing will be very slightly delayed into the sword swing animation. Due to this delay, it is impossible to do Shatterskate on small bumps in the terrain and slopes.

Ive found that if you start the shatterscate combo further back from the ledge it is more consistent. You want to make sure that the jump part happens when you are still on the ground and the air dive happens when you are in the air.

Yeah Strandskating has been a bit finnicky for me as well. I'm not sure where Strandskate would be better than Shatterskate, especially with Shatter Groundline being an option to, as you mention, gain speed anywhere. It's still good to know as many skating techs as possible though, it can't hurt to master all of them!

You can well skate without a ledge by light, jump, light. And eager edge with no ammo is not useless, it still works and can save you in PvP and PvE with jumps you might not have otherwise made.

I covered Groundlining in the video, see 1:15-1:48. Well/Shatterskating without ammo moves you slower than if you were to just sprint jump, so as far as I can tell, there's no situation where that would be preferred. It's the same as any other sword without ammo, so an empty eager swing doesn't set it apart

FYI to those who can’t exactly skate: Strand Hunter with stompees and an eager edge gets you to the other side of the bridge encounter just try to get as much distance as you can with the sword and grapples before helicoptering with the super to the end.

Dont know if you have seen somewhere yet, but I actually found you can do a Flat ground Strand skate. The input is ridiculously tight, I feel like it may be down to a hundredths of a second, but it may be a little more open then that, framerate could play a big part in it (I usually have between 80 and 120 when I manage it). I have a couple videos on my channel, warning they are unnecessarily long I suppose (I wanted to be as clear as I could be). The input is close to the same as Flat Well and Shater, Starting with a jump (Mouse up, Needed separate instant input) followed by a light attack. Immediately after the light attack I hold space (This is why the first jump wasnt space, letting go of space then pushing it back down felt like it was too slow or messing with the skate) then X (My Dive bind) followed by releasing Space then X. You need a runway almost, a completely flat spot that is preferably longer then your Eager swipes distance (If you get raised up at all in the lunge it will just be a normal air swipe and if your sword swipe would end with you above open air like facing a ledge or cliff, youll dive straight down). Im not entirely sure if its required or if its making it easier, but holding jump when activating the dive is what I believe is making it possible. Ive messed around a lot with different binds and found mouse up for the first jump makes pressing jump again before diving a lot easier, I also follow the skate with scrolling up. Funny quirk of Flat strand skating, practically the same combo done with your feet in any water makes the skate a lot easier to pull off and can vary a little in launching you horizontally like a normal skate or at an upward angle which can get some decent height on top of the distance.

Groundlining in general is typically easier in water and gives the same upwards angle as well. I'm not surprised Strand Groundlining is possible on flat ground, I just hadn't heard of or seen anything about it at the time of making my video, just like how I wasn't aware of slipskating. Taking it further, I have a feeling it might be possible to slipskate with Strand, but I can't imagine there ever being a use for that. While Strand Groundline is good to see is possible, I have a feeling Shatterskate might still be better due to being able to set up a real Shatterskate (not a Groundline) with a nade anywhere, along with being able to Groundline much more easily

@@Arkaic Definitely, Shatter is much easier to set up and get angels to skate at compared to Strand with the basic skate method and Ground skating. I really only Strand Skate, I enjoy grappling too much, so ive spent most of my time since Lightfall watching Wellskaters and Shaterskaters to watch where they aim and such. Ive found some places where they have to move to a specific spot like a ledge or on a node or something but Strandskating is possible on the ground everyones walking and you dont need to really even look for a spot but can just try and pull it off. Besides how I've found a lot of wiggle room with standard Strand Skate and usually am keeping up with speed runners, Grapple adds a lot for me. Lumina Bullet Grappling, Saving myself from falling off the map or getting smacked by a boss, or using it to hijack someone else's skate is also super effective. I managed to grab a Warlock doing the 2nd to 3rd skip in Root of Nightmares, ride him to the top of the huge tower, then grab him again before he launches toward the door to 3rd. I've been looking for an in air Sparrowskate with Strand, but the biggest issue seems to be momentum. Normal strand skates cant have any input for movement being pressed when done and I've been wondering if the Sparrow while I'm standing on it is causing the same issue as using a movement input. Ive tried setting my sparrow at dozens of different tilts and rotations, but every time ends in a dive. Ive felt like if I could get the sparrow to be still enough, like catching it right when it stops rising but hasnt started falling with no rotation, that it would be possible. However I feel like at that point its way too specific and would be borderline throwing trying to use it in a real run or something.

I wasn't aware of that, I've never seen it done but it could work. It would make it less niche, but still a bit harder to get Well/Shatterskates with compared to Eager Edge. Normal Eager and Valiant both have the same lunge distance, but enhanced Eager gets an additional 25% lunge on top of that, making it the preferred choice even if Valiant didn't have those requirements

Depends. The lower your framerate, the easier it is. I'm not sure if next-gen consoles can limit framerate in the D2 video settings or not, but if so, try setting it to 30. If you're seeing the sword swing start, or you're starting too close to a ledge, you might be casting your super too late. If you know you're stopping before the edge, then you're probably casting super before the swing starts (Eager Edge lasts for ~2 seconds, so you can take some time to make sure the sword is ready). If you can skate with any of the other supers (other than Well), then it's just a consistency issue since they're all the same combo. It's usually pretty easy to tell whether you're too early or too late. Too early will almost always result in not moving at all, too late will have you slowly move forward or stop in place in front of where you started. Enough practice and you'll certainly get it! Daybreak skating might be less used than Well but can get you much further if used properly, so it's always better to know it than not

I haven't done it much myself to figure out all the specifics. I kept slamming when trying the shatterskate combo, but what fixed it for me was diving before jumping. Also, try going into a private mayhem match, your abilities should charge faster there. Sorry, wish I could give you more detailed advice, I just don't know much about it myself

Honestly I haven't tried it much myself. All I've done so far is enough to figure it out, and then once for the video lol. I think it's best done if you stay on the downhill until you jump, but I'm not certain. Remember it's heavy - dive - jump, not heavy - jump - dive, and the jump at the end seems to not be mandatory, it just helps get that initial upward angle. I'll try it some more later on to see if I can figure it out better and maybe give some better advice

To hit the initial skate, set your FPS as low as you can, and make sure you do the combo while on the ground. If you do it right, the momentum should carry you off the ledge with most of your speed. After that, just activate your glide in short taps so you maintain height without losing much speed in the air, in a similar way as with Heat Rises

If anything, Enhanced will make it easier since you get an additional half second on your Eager Edge timer, giving you extra time to set it up. All of my skates are done with enhanced Eager Edge, but they're all doable with normal Eager Edge as well. Since there is no handling stat on sword, Quick Access Sling and perks shouldn't make a difference in the timing. A common problem I do see is people trying to skate before the sword is all the way out, so it ends up not swinging and they just plant their super/Shatterdive straight down. Other than that, I'm not sure why going from normal to enhanced would cause any issues. Let me know if you figure it out!

Just tested with Golden Gun and Arc Staff, it still works. It all depends on which super you're trying to skate with; ones that suspend you in an animation midair (Gathering Storm, Blade Barrage, etc) won't work, but roaming supers *usually* do. Silkstrike and Spectral Blades in particular will slow you down so you don't get much distance

Yes. I tested skating on controller as well, they're all doable even with default binds (Strand/Shatterskates you want Air Dive to be on Press, not Hold). Even the semi-rotation sparrow bubble skate is possible. It all comes down to trying long enough to get it the first time, and then the patience to replicate it afterwards

The easiest way is to just jump off the edge, it puts your rez back up by Morgeth. Afaik there isn't a way to get that much height back without Z-climbing or grapple flying
