I'm not the biggest fan of politicians, but well done to James Arbuthnot for fighting with the post masters!

What's ridiculous is the sheer gall of the public to proclaim "why have i only just heard about this". It's been a story in the media for over a decade.

Absolutely nuts that people can be sent to jail without proof and proper investigation!

Nick Wallis, along with Karl Flinders at Computer Weekly, have been great supporters of the innocent sub postmasters who have been hounded and persecuted by the Post Office, despite top level management at the Post Office and Fujitsu knowing the failings of the Horizon system.

was in 2011 and now today, in 2024 it has taken an ITV dramatisation of these events to make this huge miscarriage of justice to the forefront. The post office and the government are disgusting! All the INNOCENT sub postmasters should be compensated in the millions for each person.

Nick, keep up the good reporting work. I’m reading your account of the Horizon fiasco, The Great Post Office Scandal, here in Singapore after I first read of the subpostmasters’ plight in stamp magazines my library subscribes to. It is heart-breaking and bone-chilling every time I read of a subpostmasters’ and subpostmistresses’ unfortunate experience and the injustice faced, especially when they are sent to prison for an offence which should have been the Horizon IT system’s fault.

2024 and it takes an ITV drama to get the Government to get off their arse and do something. The people who viciously pursued these innocent people need to be behind bars.

It also takes an ITV drama for people to sadly bother caring. Shows how stupid and insular the average little englander is.

Not so; the public enquiry has been going on since summer 2021. It was an independent public enquiry before that. The ITV drama just brought it to the public's attention more effectively. Panorama did a programme on it.

It's amazing how few views this got. A great scandal that ruined the lives of hundreds of families. It seems people prefer pop music videos.

yes - they don't give a toss about people working for them behind the till - anywhere and this indifference is shown in the case of horizon.

Over the past 13 years the BBC has been diligently reporting on this scandal in news programmes, radio documentaries, an ongoing podcast series and 3 Panorama specials. Sadly the majority of the British public seem not to be interested in this sort of content, and prefer to watch "entertainment" shows. Kudos to the people at ITV who thought it would be a good idea to re-tell the postmasters' experiences in a heart-wrenching drama, and finally bring the issue to the attention of a mass audience. Shame on the politicians who chose to ignore the issue for so many years and are only now being forced into taking action because of the public outcry.

I think some of the earlier reporting maybe didn't quite disclose the scale and impact. You had 1 or 2 stories of someone who found themselves £4000 down, had to unfairly repay the money, blamed an IT glitch and went on to leave employment with PO. What you're getting now is the idea of hundreds of people affected, people losing their homes, their marriages, going bankcrupt, becoming ill, being wrongly prosecuted for theft, being gaslight by the PO lawyers,

Utterly tragic that some postmasters took their own lives AFTER this was originally broadcasted. If someone had just pointed them in the direction of this show or if it had been more widely repeated nationwide… just awful.

Anyone who thinks a computer program can never be wrong is a fool. I've written a lot of computer programs and there's no such thing as a perfect program. You always find bugs, no matter how careful you are.

Experimental internet technology ie (Horizon) imposed on all sub postmasters in 1998/2000 that has never been tried and tested, importantly what unknown future consequences, we now know. An example is 2 different and incompatible internet technologies Dial-up and broadband of different bandwidth frequencies operating in the Horizon system that produce corrupt/bad Horizon financial transactions, Banks still use dial-up internet because it is free.

I think you really have to hand it to Nick Wallis for his persistence and what I think, with great respect, sheer bloody minded determination, to get the post office scandal out there in every form of media possible. I don’t know why it has taken until now to hit home with the public, but one thing could simply be that the issue at times has been about a computer system and I think people don’t take in things they don’t understand. What they didn’t take in and Nick Wallis’s coverage always does, is make the point that the story is really about people, people who have suffered horribly as a result of what happened to them. I think the drama has hit home so powerfully because it was like watching people go through this terrible thing and seeing the damage it did to them. I think the drama made people angry too and there’s nothing like a bit of justifiable righteous indignation to motivate people. I can’t be the only person who saw the first two parts of the drama and couldn’t sleep afterwards, such was my fury. My only fear is that after the public inquiry the Government, who also have questions to answer on this, will issue some mealymouthed statement about ‘this must never happen again’. Well it mustn’t be ALLOWED to happen again. Someone, and I suspect a lot of people, must be held accountable for the awful ordeal people have been subjected to.
