Curious about slab-on-grade foundations? I shot this video of a post-tension slab just prior to concrete being poured.

I have done over 13,000 apartments, the majority being post-tension, and the cables are not supposed to lay on the ground. They are to be on chairs so that they are encapsulated in concrete. Also, the poly should go down in the beams. Where the poly is torn, it should be patched. Also, the comment on where the concrete comes to on the dead-end is wrong. It is supposed to be completely encapsulated. I am not sure, but it appears that some of the reinforcement in the beams is not correct,

Most of these videos on YT are showing Concreting not done correctly. All rio should be sitting on chairs not just the cables. And this guy has no idea, the majority of the trenches in the middle are to hold the slab together in reactive soil. Some would be for load bearing walls but all the non load bearing walls are fine to sit on 100mm concrete.

Where the plastic caps for the far end of the cables? Cables can't touch the form...same goes for rebar

Can radiant floors be installed in this type of slab? How do you insulate it with 2" polystyrene. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for posting. Most of the post tension cables are sitting directly on what will be the bottom of the floor. Don’t these cables need to be elevated so they’re in the middle of the concrete floor?

Yes … looks like the conc crew just hadn’t put the chairs under the cables yet. Those are typically done last as it makes it’s harder to move around.

You're right, even if these tendons are being used instead of rebar, it's weird not seeing chairs. Doesn't seem right huh?

Cracks are cosmetic. There is concrete that is crack and concrete that will crack

I love your videos, I never ask you a question, but today I have a question and I hope you can help me, the post tension runs on the porch of a house because I saw some nails outside my house in the foundation in the corner of my house where the porch is, and a person went to do a sidewalk to my house, and I had to go to work and noticed the next day that they had cut a line from the foundation of my house on the porch side so that the water does not The porch got in, it was about half an inch, that's why I was asking you if the post tension runs on the porch? The person who cut says they don't go there, thank you very much.

It's possible but probably not. The porch was probably poured later as "flat work". Those nails are probably left from when the form boards were there.

For someone new and learning about structural engineering and foundation setup, Would plumbing toilet drainline ever be directly over ontop of beam location? Also what is the thickness of the beams, sizes side to side? Video mentioned the beam is about 2 feet deep but did not say how wide. What is the typical thickness of a slab foundation? Could a slab foundation be thicker more then 6" to 8" depth? Perhaps 10" deep? Any structural engineering that can answer more questions for me?

Is it just dirt under those plastic coverings? If so, is the dirt compacted? I don't see how that could hold up a freaking house.
@meetjeffkelly

The part under the plastic is I disturbed soil. The other is trenches dug to hold the concrete.

The foundation holds up the house, not the dirt or concrete slab. The foundation are the outside and inside beams.

Keeps moisture away. With out it groundwater can penetrate upwards and cause ongoing constant moisture problems.
