This genocidal maniac from another planet couldn't be any more plain. He goes on to say, "I don't want to resort to threats Mr. Harley; I merely tell you that the future of your planet is at stake." “I don't want to resort to threats !!???!” He just threatened to INCINERATE ALL LIFE ON EARTH if he doesn’t get his way - that would include little Bobby Benson, helpless babies, elderly grandmothers, poor people living in third world countries, the helpless and disabled who have no role in global conflicts, ground squirrels, dolphins, kittens etc all face utter annihilation in the interest of promoting “peace”.. and then he turns around and says that he doesn’t want to resort to THREATS? What utter hypocrisy. In reality it is Klattu who is the monster, the war monger, an interstellar Hitler coming to earth threatening to cleanse the planet of undesirables. Let us take this a hypothetical step further. What if another messenger shows up on the scene from a civilization more scientifically advanced than Klattu’s, and tells HIM that unless he dismantles his weapons of mass destruction, such as his killer Robot Gort, then HE will be annihilated. That would only be poetic justice for this potential mass murderer from outer space.

@jimfoard5671 what he said was he didn't care about the world's petty squabbles. Then he said "but if you threaten to extend your violence.." meaning interplanetary of course.. Klaatu is from another planet. That makes sense. He's saying if your planet threatens violence against another planet it will be handled. He's not making an empty threat against Earth. Just came to warn Earth that there will be repercussions if they decide to extend their foolish warring ways beyond Earth. Sounds reasonable to me. And certainly kind of Klaatu to give us a heads up. @rochford59, Morality is something absent in most cultures, some more than others. The shoot first and ask questions later rule following military, and police is really no different now. The United Nations are about as unholy of a group as they come because nobody is united. Morals are absent in every aspect of society with corporate greed being the driving factor behind most decisions. Most people are so programmed by the Tell A Vision now they can't even figure out what sex they are let alone anything else like critical thinking skills. The entire science FICTION in movies was to program people into thinking we can go to some distant world. We can't go anywhere, we never will go anywhere because governments are into controlling the masses, indoctrinating our youth, and several generations of young people are devoid of any morals, decency, or discretion.

"Also morale of this story is peace around the world. Now 2024 Earth is in trouble. We need you Klatu!" What in the WORLD are you talking about? Am I missing something here? At 15:18 Klaatu says, "I am not concerned, Mr. Harley, with the internal affairs of your planet. My mission here is not to solve your petty squabbles [he doesn't care about world peace]. It concerns the existence of EVERY LAST CREATURE ON EARTH". In reality it is Klaatu who is the monster, the war monger, an interstellar Hitler coming to earth threatening to cleanse the planet of undesirables. Let us take this a hypothetical step further. What if another messenger shows up on the scene from a civilization more scientifically advanced than Klaatu’s, and tells HIM that unless he dismantles his weapons of mass destruction, such as his killer Robot Gort, then HE will be annihilated. That would only be poetic justice for this potential mass murderer from outer space.

One thing in common with the old and the new version of this movie is that the US government casually (and contemptuously) disregarded Klaatu's explicit request to speak to the UN's assembled representatives of all nations on earth. Then the US fired first and distorted Klaatu's message to the entire world. If a remake were ever produced a third time, the spacecraft ought to land in Shanghai or New Delhi, and present a different script to show how those nations could react, in the name of our species.

@stephenhill8790, The so called environmental, or climate change lie is to get people to go along with the one world order of control. Pretty much all of the science fiction in movies programs people to accept the governments version of events as fact. The ones doing the most environmental damage is the governments themselves, weather control, control of all media and the narrative, and of course starting endless wars to make a lot of money for corporate greed. This cycle of violence by the governments against the people must stop but it will never stop because of the evil forces behind every institution, and system of government. Even the foundations of morality have been distorted and even corrupted by the religions, which are in and of themselves other means of controlling the masses. The poisoning of the water, food, and the the corruption from everything from the financial, to the medical system must stop. The most basic way to understand at what point we are as a society worldwide, is simply Revelation 9:21.The entire world would not repent of their murders(abortion, wars, poisoning everything), they would not repent of their sorcery( pharmacy, fluoride in drinking water, GMO foods etc. the list is quite long), their sexual immorality( gays, pronouns, sexual perversion, children being sexually abused,etc.etc.) and of course the massive theft by a few large corporations the likes to which have never been seen( The Federal Reserve, IMF, banks, corporations like Amazon, so called "communications"companies, the list is quite long). Another words the simple way to understand why society is about to implode is because nobody wants to deviate from their total lack of moral values. People also lack the decency, common sense, and moral values needed to further humanity as a whole. Sheeple just staring at screens, redundant communications, and a bunch of lazy people to consumed with social media, and sensationalism, to even function on even the most basic levels of decency or respect for others. The science fiction mind control in movies even paints a picture that people could all get along (like a star trek federation), but the reality is people will never get along absent of morals towards one another. It's not even about religion so much is it's about a spiritual sickness in people's hearts, that can't and never will be fixed by any political solution. It must come from people's hearts, without that most of humanity will be wiped out by the so called "elite", which are neither elite, special, or decent in any way. The controllers are the ones who have to go, and the people need to understand who the real enemy is, and quit fighting and killing one another in wars and political nonsense, and doing the one world orders dirty work for them.

Absolute Masterpiece by every measure. One of the handful of films that absolutely set the standard for everything to come . The effects , especially the landing sequence still holds up today as some of the finest physical effects that Hollywood was capable of back when they had real hands on , inventiveness , and genius. They didn't throw every problem at a computer back then . They had real artistic ability. I sure wish someone today would attempt to create a sci - fi film with absolutely NO computers, CGI, or digital effects . Maybe , if they take the time , and find just the right artists , they will create a masterpiece too. Lord knows I sure haven't seen one in a long while.

This is in my top 10 movies of any genre, ever made. The chemistry between Bobby and later his mother, and Klaatu is the center around which the entire movie revolves. Bobby and his youthful innocence is quite literally what saved humanity. I have seen this movie at least 100 times and I hear little gems of dialog between Bobby and Klaatu that I didn't appreciate before. The special effects hold up reasonably well given the age of the film and Michael Rennie performance is just brilliant. Where are the Michael Rennies or the Charlton Hestons of today?

One of my favourite films. The modern version is almost unwatchable. Being English, I love the way Michael Rennie underplays Klaatu with his superb English accent. (He sadly died relatively young while visiting his mother in Harrogate, in the North Riding of Yorkshire.) When Patricia Neal has to convey the vital message to Gort (Lock Martin) - Klaatu barada nikto - to avoid the destruction of the earth, Bernard Herrmann’s music sends shivers down the spine. Message to Hollywood - don’t remake an excellent film, it will be terrible.
