XL Center was the home of the Whalers and currently is the home for the Wolf Pack and UConn Huskies

I used to play at the Alfond when u was younger used to play Home games there and practice there. The atmosphere is great during college games you guys need to make it down to a game it’s a must, put it on your list. And the score clock doesn’t rotate. It also is pretty unique because the top of the upper bowl is at ground level meaning that he arena itself is built into the ground

I worked at Alfond Arena @ UMaine from 92-94. Loved your reaction to the photos! It is indeed a great place to take in a game, and no, that is not a rotating scoreboard. Norteastern's arena is in fact the Boston Bruins original home before the OLD Boston Garden was built. It's one of the oldest arenas in the US.

For the xl center the Whalers did play there but the tall black walls are not walls. The section of seated for hockey. Uconn basketball plays their and the bring up the curtains for more seating. For hockey it seats 14,750 (9,801 with curtain system). The Rangers AHL team, the Hartford Wolfpack, also play there.

I graduated from UMass Lowell and I attended just about every single home game at the Tsongas Center, and I LOVE that building. The Tsongas Center was also home to the Lowell Lock Monsters and Lowell Devils AHL teams up until the end of the 2009-2010 season. I also played a lot of youth hockey at the Merrimack Collece rink, and I hated the ice there. Nice rink, but bad ice back in the 2000s. I know I’m late to finding this video, but better late than never!

Interesting video considering none of you have been to a Hockey East game (I got the impression none of you have). As a giant Hockey East fan it gave me a good laugh to watch you guys give opinions based on just a picture. I've been to 9 Hockey East arenas. A few of my thoughts... UMass Lowell and UMass are two different places a 2 hour drive apart. Come Forum (Boston College) is one if the nicest. My personal favorite arena in hockey east. There is a videoboaed at each end if the ice that couldn't be seen in the picture. And they have the cheapest tickets Agganis Arena (Boston University) is one if the nicest. The picture you showed didn't do it justice Matthews Arena (Northeastern) is an old dump and should be replaced Tsongas Center (Umass Lowell) is a clone of Agganis Arena, it's very nice. One of the few teams that charges for parking. Whittwmore Center (UNH) is nothing to write home about. Too many ushers working gives it an unfriendly feel. The parking lot is separated from the arena by a railroad track. To walk to it everyone must go up a narrow staircase to a bridge over the train track. It's a log jam after a game when 5,000 people are trying to use the same staircase Gutterson Fieldhouse (Vermont) is the biggest dump in Hockey East. The seats are wooden benches. It should be torn down Alfond Arena (Maine) looks cool, but is not a good place to see a game. They have expensive tickets and many of the seats are very cramped with almost no legroom. Like uncomfortably cramped feeling like you're right on top of the people in front of and behind you XL Center is where the Whalers played, same building. It just had a different name back in the day Schneider Arena (Providence) is nice and modern, but very small. Long lines for tiny concessions and restrooms

Do a little UNH history on their Arena the original Arena was called snively Arena which is right next door it looks like the University of Vermont's they called it Lively snively and in 1995 they built the Whittemore Center they've gotten up to date on their lights. UMass Amherst is in western Massachusetts and UMass Lowell is in Eastern Massachusetts. I’ve been to Amherst it’s pretty big and only 30 mins from Springfield. The culture in eastern Mass is very different and people in the West don’t have much of any kind of accent. The XL center for UConn is most certainly the whalers former arena I went to multiple games there too. The upper bowl seat go at a crazy downward slope I get serious vertigo if I’m up in those seats.

I've been a season ticket holder for Umass Lowell Hockey since I was 4 and I am a diehart super fan for them. (Also a friend of the kid who sent you the photos) I've been to every hockey east arena and I will give my rankings. I will point out that Umass and Umass Lowell are 2 different schools on 2 different sides of the state. The Tsongas Center is a fantastic place to watch hockey and I love calling it my home. Tsongas also hosted an AHL team (the Lowell Locke Monsters, who became the Lowell Devils before they moved). UMass has multiple campuses, each of which have their own team. Amherst (Minutemen) and Lowell (Riverhawks) play NCAA D1, an UMass Dartmouth (Corsairs) (not to be confused with Dartmouth college big green) and Boston (Beacons) play in the lower D3 level in the MASCAC and ECAC NE respectively. The reason it looks like nothing is going on in front of the Whittemore center (UNH) is because you have the field hockey field in the foreground of your shot.

@@lincolnretzlaff6644 Providence won the national championship 3 years ago, umass is ranked number 1 right now, UML has made several frozen fours, and they usually get about 3 to 4 teams make the tourney, still a powerhouse, but Ill admit its been a slight dry spell lately. ironically both BC and BU are garbage this year which is quite rare... BC has one of their worst teams ever.

XL Center was where the Hartford Whalers played. Now UConn Mens Hockey plays there along with the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack. In addition, UConn Mens and Womens Basketball plays there for big games (Notre Dame/Wichita State/SMU/Cincy/former Big East foes).

Yes the Xl center is the home for the uconn huskies and the NHL hartford whalers. Its a great building that does need to be renovated.. the crowds are great for uconn and they play brass bonanzas just like when the whalers scored.. go Huskies and whalers!

the boards at the Alfond don't rotate. It is difficult to get seats and it is very hostile to away fans. the Tsongas Center is where UMass Lowell plays. The second UMass one was UMass Amherst. The Tsongas Center and the Whittemore Center are the nicest two rinks. Although UNH fans are a lot nicer than Lowell.

At this point it would be really easy for you guys to get tickets at the Alfond for a college hockey game, the turnout games have become a very low turnout over the last few years. It’s a fun arena to play in as It was my home area for high school hockey.

BC - arena shared with the school's D-1 basketball team, but it works much better for hockey. Stands on sides go high. Physically attached to the 45,000 seat football stadium. BU - Fairly new. You mentioned a pool. There is another building right next door with competitive pool & student fitness but its all done with same architecture. Merrimack - definitely an old terrible building that is more like a high school rink, just bigger (3k). They've done the best they can with paint but would benefit from starting new. UNH - might look like a bathroom from outside, but the ice level is sunken down below the ground level you saw. Maine - The most unique. Old. Plays to home team's advantage. UMass Lowell - also a City-owned civic arena for local events and concerts. Not right on campus. UMass Amherst - maroon & black is just too dark. Northeastern - The way the upper level hangs over the lower bowl is cool and puts those fans right close to the ice. Providence - ice rink is on campus, unlike their basketball team which is in a downtown city owned arena like this UM-Lowell. Vermont - The Gut always looks like a fun unique spot. Would love to check it out. UConn - nothing to add.

Good luck trying to get tickets at UMaine if you get tickets get tickets for UNH versus UMaine rivalry game they called it the Border War University of New Hampshire and U Maine I've had a rivalry for years 1999. And 2002 U Maine won the National Championship in 99 unh won the hockey East title in 2002 at the Fleet Center which is now the TD Garden and lost the semi-final St Paul Minnesota national championship to U Maine

BC - Poor parking, very cavernous BU - One of better arenas, just bad parking again MC - Small, sightlines not as good closer to ice, but a lot better than what it was, feels cool to be close to action Maine - Absolute best fan experience in Hockey East, just the right size, unique outside, great place NU - Has some very bad sightlines being older, but cool for the historical factor, bad parking again PC - Bad fan experience, poor sightlines, feels like a railing is in every shot, one of the worst UML - Similar layout to BU, a lot has been put into it, solid sightlines and experience UMass - Solid, just a bit cavernous like BC, not really a bad seat UNH - Same layout as BU/UML, solid, fans are good, parking is annoying UVM - Cool out hockey barn feel, truest of the sense in the conference UConn - Not bad, not great, it's big and cavernous as well, feels most like an NHL arena since it was
