Michael, as a former libertarian INTJ, I gotta ask, what causes you to clash with them specifically? What context does it happen in? Or is it context independent? Does it have to do with the area of work you were in? Or personal political differences that are irrelevant to the project? Or just something about their way of interacting?

@@marvellpower INTJ here. Was wondering this same thing recently. I'm terrible at accepting compliments. I'm skeptical of them. Cuz I think flattery is often used to manipulate. So I question whether they're being genuine. Or trying to manipulate me. Whether in fact they think the OPPOSITE of the compliment. ~10% of the time I just immediately accept it, cuz I completely agree that the compliment is accurate and genuine.

Relating to a lot of what Michael was saying, particularly regarding immersion in high level difficult material as a way to then accept the journey of learning from the basics. I do think for me it has to do with outlining a box that this knowledge can then fill out. I know where the celining is, so I can make connections faster and see applications easier. It also allows me to understand truly what (to use his example) math IS in a very conceptual and integrated way. I also relate to the first ingestion of new entertainment being a hurdle to actually enjoy it in follow up sessions...that restlessness. This isn't always the case, but i realize that when looking for new music (for example) I listen to seconds of songs, and I jump around within the song quickly to taste all portions briefly...it's like I'm smelling them instead of eating them in a sense. I think i'm looking for things that grab my Fi, and I know if something will in a very short period of time (also relate to generally knowing if I'll want to befriend someone in quick interactions). I could honestly go on and on with how much I related to things in this conversation LOL so I'll just leave it at this 😋😆 Thanks for getting such a good panel together Joyce and thanks everyone for being so vulnerable and curious!

"It's like I'm smelling them instead of eating them in a sense. I think i'm looking for things that grab my Fi" THIS IS SO WELL PUT. 👏👏 Yes!! The superpower of Fi is knowing how you feel. It's knowing if you'll want to befriend someone just from a quick interaction, how you immediately feel about the music you're listening to or anything within that Fi users domain. 🙂

@@JoyceMeng22 girl THANK YOU. you're so sweet :) What's interesting is I have no problem going back and listening to things I initially dismissed, but someone will need to bring them to my attention. I may have thought I didn't like a song but then someone will articulate their reasons for liking it and it's like I'm listening with a new set of ears! It's an absolute treat when that happens.

That was SO INTERESTING Joyce how you explained Fe as being so sensitive to the emotional temperature. It's so foreign to me to hear that and I appreciate your explanation. I gotta try to remember that. I resonated with everything they all said here. I did not respect Fe when I was younger, didn't even know it existed frankly. But I do appreciate it now and try to use it where I know it is expected or needed. But as Michael said, it is definitely not natural or comfortable. I feel like I'm an actress playing a role so it's not a true feeling of the relationship with the person I'm interacting with when I'm doing Fe. However, if the person is someone I love, then because of my love for them, and I know it matters to them, then I can conjure up a sense of positive purpose to it and feel glad to do it. But it's almost always very deliberate and awkward and often forced if I don't care deeply for the person. If I don't care a lot for them, then I often can manage to only summon up the energy to do the very bare minimum of Fe just to get by socially. The one way that I'm actually really good with Fe is that I always am grateful for nice things people do and I make a point to tell them that. My ENTJ Dad and ESFJ stepmom once told me they were impressed that I was so good at saying thank you to people and showing appreciation. I don't know if that is Fe or Fi (because it is very sincere) but it comes across as Fe I think. What gets me feeling sheepish and humble is when I wonder/imagine if Fe users see our Te the way we see their Fe. Like how we are so non-receptive to their Fe with our Fi (as explained by Michelle, Chris, Heidi and Michael so well in the video) and how their Ti is not receptive to our Te. In other words, I always feel Fe/Ti users are looking down on me with their Ti but then I wonder if y'all feel like we are looking down on you with our Fi? It's interesting. I feel like that's something both types need to be wary of so we don't hurt the person using the extroverted version of the function.
@jack76787

I think I'm Fe-Ti and I don't really know what Te does. Feeling out the emotional temperature is something I do and that feels like the primary 'tribe' function. I don't really see the other barometer that Te is tracking. I don't look down at Te users but it's possible that in some scenarios I come across that way. Although I hope not.

Michelle is correct about INTJ/INFP connection being super common. I am an INTJ and was married to an INFP a long time ago. And I've been with another INFP for the last 9 years now. For me, it's a bit stronger than the ENFP/INTJ connection regarding romantic relationships. I love the INFP emotional intensity and their Ne aux. Regarding who is drawn to me, INFPs are totally drawn to me as well as ENFPs and other INTJs and occasionally ENFJs. It's mutual with all of them. And I like Michael too!! He's a sweetie pie!

These videos are great! The part about rewatching things is so funny, I can rewatch my favorite things ad nauseum (infp husband not so much). For me (intj) the anticipation of knowing what's coming makes it funnier or, if serious, more poignant. I don't seem to need much variety, just a couple things I like A LOT. My rotation of "new media" is very slow. For example I can obsess over one CD for months whereas my husband has a Spotify subscription. It seems the "anticipation" either ruins or enhances the experience depending on the individual.

I totally agree with Heidi regarding knowing if there is a connection quickly. I will meet someone and think I won't like them at first but then as I get to know them, I do like them, at least much more than I thought at first. I chalk it up to my Fi expecting alignment in the beginning before I feel a bond. But then I like them anyway. It tends to go that way more than the opposite. Rarely do I like someone right away and then not like them afterwards. Overall, I tend to like most people but just not at first...unless we click right away of course.

38:57 wow. So beautiful way to put it! "The ever unfolding mistery" I don't know if it's famous abroad or not, but there is this beautiful book by an Italian writer named Italo Svevo (he apparently was a patient of one of Freud's pupil) that is "Zeno's Conscience"; the book consists in the autobiography of this man, Zeno Cosini, where he narrates the most important events in his life (it was used as a method of psychoanalysis by his fictional doctor). The reason it is good is that the story has to be interpreted by the reader, since it's possible that Zeno modified some of the events of his life or focused more on some parts than others in order to make himself appear as more valuable. It's one of my favourite narrative books, since it has this veil of mistery around it that leaves the reader guessing, without a unique or evident thruth.

Lmao same! That dead dead Si. I also very often had times where my enfp friend and I (intj) were chatting with somebody and then almost immediately after my enfp was like "man it was so sweet when she said this and this" and I literally couldn't remember at all, even though I apparently even answered on that during the convo. Maybe that's when Fi is uninterested in the convo and drained from the whole Fe circus and also Se has nothing to perform or give some fun experience, and so the information of the moment gets stored on Si, which though the brain gives so dang little energy to. Do you have such moments too? or should I worry about dementia lol

I feel like it gives me another perspective of the movie I didn't think about. So it's like watching the movie through another lens. I also dislike open-ended things. That's interesting with having to read the last chapter part.. Does it have to do with how Te needs to know what it is working towards? Or what the end result is? When i watch movies I like to prime my mind by reading the plot so it knows what to expect and doesn't go haywire asking questions '' where is this leading to? '' or '' what is the point of this? " and it allows me to enjoy the unfoldment of the movie.

In my experience with an ENTJ (early-mid 20s), that is true. Although I was his #1 confidante and he spoke very unwell about others behind their back. Even with things he himself did or contributed to. (INFJ here)

0:28 as an ENFP I think I would've agreed with them, but then after thinking about it more I realized that it really depends on the situation. Most compliments don't really do anything for me, but when they are unique or make me realize something I didn't know before, I actually quite like them. It also kinda depends the _way_ someone says it. Most people just give compliments to give them, but occasionally you come across a person whose compliments are so genuine it's hard not to appreciate them haha. One example of this that I experienced was at a church camp the summer after 10th grade. There was one girl there (who I think was probably an ENTP) who had a very interesting "vibe" to her. Super funny, hilariously honest, and entertaining to listen to. When she gave compliments, you KNEW she meant it. It was like she was giving the compliment the moment she noticed it, like that observation was all she could think of and just had to say it. You KNEW it was true if she said it. I'm having a tough time describing it, but she just gave really good compliments 😂 When the camp was over we were saying goodbye to everyone and she just goes "wow, you give REALLY good hugs" 😆 And idk why but the way she said it had this borderline hilarious level of honesty to it that it made that seemingly basic compliment stick with me. It just seemed like one of those things you'd think and not say, and the fact that she completely did not care and said it anyways made it funny and memorable. And now I know! I don't have to worry if I'm giving someone a bad hug lolll I also realized that giving compliments doesn't have to feel so disingenuous. At the same camp I mentioned before, they encouraged us to notice the people around us and at the end of the week we would go around and tell those people. It was a bit of a humbling moment for me, both in realizing that I should be recognizing people more for their abilities and that if other people were being as observant about me as I were of them, my insecurities weren't actually that obvious. This made me more comfortable around them, and to acknowledge that I can be a bit self-centered sometimes and try to change that. By paying more attention to the people around me, I started to appreciate them even more than I did before. And when it came time to tell everyone those things, it was very wonderful. It didn't feel forced, because everyone's compliments were very genuine. And as an ENFP, it was an opportunity to verbalize that idealistic love we have for people. It was strangely surreal for everyone to say it out loud, and made me realize that compliments don't have to be so fake all the time 😂 Then again, words of affirmation is pretty low down for me on the love language tier so I still remembered the hugs more than what we said 😂

Re: Fi talking about how they feel about someone (esp. high regard) to others and not the person. I totally caught on to this with my INFP friend and it was further solidified with an ENTJ I knew. I noticed they wouldn't really tell me how they felt about me to my face (though INFP more-so), but would talk about how much they enjoyed others. I am super close with both too. My dear INFP friend found the insight to be a revelation and has applied it to be more a bit more direct with her appreciation to others! Other thoughts: Me being verbally direct with my appreciation to others gives me another piece of the puzzle as to why I think I'm INFJ. Been an MBTI enthusiast for 3 years. All the doubts about INFJs being mistyped or getting the wrong test results, as well as Enneagram tests being inaccurate, has caused me to doubt and want to further examine my type. But it seems like I tested correctly for both. Perhaps I am more self-aware than I realized. The fact that others doubting affects me really highlights an Enneagram 6 trait. A new ENTP friend is wondering if I may be INFP because of my indecisiveness and not having my life path pre-planned (particularly since young). As well as waiting for the "stars to align" and not being good at time management. I seem Ne-ish to him. I think this has more to do with my Enneagram and nurture, and I also gather than INFJs are less solid with their plans than INTJs.

I assume anyone who tells me they test INFJ is prob-b-b-ably not…OR they are…. or most likely they are an INFP (testing in enneagram as a 9 with a wing 1). Enneagram 9 with a 1 wing = liking safe, organized, and predictable environments (sounds just like a J, doesn’t it?)…hence testing as INF(J)

I remember being asked what type I would be if I could change it...I answered, none, I love being INFJ 😊

I honestly find high Fe and Fi users intimidating bc their very comfortable with their internal feelings and I’m an INTJ so I’m not. I feel more comfortable in a situation where feelings can be completely separate from the conversation. Compliments and me thanking people is not part of myself either. It’s something to do with not having to feel my feelings. I do feel intensely, but I never let it’s show or choose to pay attention to it.

I'm curious what Michael means by Ti and Random Access Memory... not sure what he means there...

Introverted Thinking (Ti). I believe Michael referrs to how Ti users have lots of disparate pieces of information organized in their head for instant retrieval (like the RAM in computers).

Maybe this is my fi, but I HATE unclear endings of the movie if I care about the characters deeply and have like love or care for them in some way. Lol.
