Postgame Reaction Pod as the Detroit Lions fall in the preseason opener

It was not a great night for the Lions. They fall to the New York Giants 14-3 in Preseason Game #1. Lions offense could not get going under Nate Sudfeld, who started at QB. Hendon Hooker did better, but the offense only managed a Jake Bates 53 yard FG. Defense did alright and there were some positives. #firstlisten

Considering Manu came from Canadian University Football, he has progressed in a very short time. The jump he has to make is significant and I think he has shown potential that justifies his draft pick position.

With the new kickoff rules, a lot of stuff comes out of play. Like there's no more muffed kicks that can be recovered by the kicking team.

I'm not convinced that run injured Hooker. He took a rough late hit earlier that could have done it. He was jarred pretty good. Hooker has always run into tackles like that. He took multiple hits in college like this or worse. I will say, however, that NFL players are bigger and stronger but Hendon is now to. I think he will calm down and get it together next game if he can play.

Giants fan here… my high level take… both Giants and Lions #2 QBs looked rough … I suspect the it was probably a combination of rain and 2nd string offensive line. Also, both Giants and Lions 3 string QBs looked better than the 2’s … maybe because the weather changed ???..let’s see how they both do on a different sunny dry day… will also give both OLines a chance to work out some kinks. So high level take away …. Last year the Giants got Trucked … the 2 stringers seemed to hold up better this year win our new players. Take away for Lions is probably that 2 team may not be as strong as last year … depend on how much you think the Giants 2 team players played .

He lost that job to Milton because he is not a practice QB. He is a gamer QB. Milton was not hurt in that game bad enough to even miss the rest of that game, let alone rest of the season. Once Hendon went in he didn't come out. So, it tells me not to judge to soon.
