Yes, weight does certainly matter when you're packing your full station for a multi-hour SOTA hike. You've got some of the best lightweights there in your collection! Great video! 72, Thomas

Indeed! You definitely need to add an MTR3B to that kit if you get the chance. 😁 My lightest decently functional rigs are an MTR2B with a custom 3d printed case, a crystal-bound Multi-DC transceiver, standard MTR3B, and a truSDX.

Ounces = pounds and pounds = pain. KH1 is the GOAT. I'm of the mindset that the price is fair as well. If I wanted to compare it against a similar radio that does everything it does, the KH1 would be the cheapest option... also the most expensive option... The joke is that there is no other radio to compare it to that does everything the KH1 does.

Yezzir. This is why you're the goat MM!! Unfortunately (and fortunately), in a capitalistic-free market, it cannot be overpriced until: 1) people stop back-ordering it OR 2) a competitor undercuts it I think some people forget that we're not paying for toroids and PCB boards. It's simple to look at componentry and say yeah that's overpriced. We're paying for the R&D that went into creating a unicorn in this market. I will admit I am unapologetically romantic about the KH1. I want to kiss it right on the paddles. 73 de KI7QCF (M7 owner)

Absolutely matters !!! 3plus mile hikes in a southwest summer you need minimum 4 liters of water (8lbs) . Throw in all the other gear with a heavy radio and you will be well over a 20 lb pack.

I want a KH1, but I do like to keep FT8/4 available for when CW just isn't making it happen. It is kind of a shame how people responded to Wayne asking if people wanted to see FT8 on the KH1 like it would personally affect them if they didn't want to use that mode. So far the mid band QMX has been awesome for me.
@Utahforrest3 ай бұрын
I agree! There shouldn’t be any negativity towards any of the other modes. (It’s a good reminder for myself as well) - We need young people getting into the hobby and to do so however they want! Love my QMX mid-band

I also own all four of these radios (well i have a mtr3b not a 4b) and you are right. They are all awesome radios and the KH1 is absolutely phenomenal in what it puts into that small package. About the only gripe I have with the KH1 is the sidetone is incredibly mediocre (prior to firmware 1.25 it was downright horrific). I will admit that even though the KH1 is a full package, I would still end up packing an antenna when doing SOTA because I like to sit down and maximize what I can do at a summit. I really don't want to have to do pedestrian mobile at a summit unless I absolutely have to. 73 de Jonathan KM4CFT

Couldn’t agree more. If you ask me how many POTA activations I have (10 QSOs start to finish) with the KH1 whip, the answer is ZERO. But I have made QSOs with the whip while activating. (One video I got a DX to Japan on the whip!) My favorite thing about the KH1 is pedestrian mobile hunting. It’s an enthusiasts radio and I’m romantic about it. People probably think they have me on commission! I’m so new to CW and radios that I never noticed issues with the side tone or receive audio until I started posting videos about the KH1 on my channel. Now my comments get flooded with it. Granted, I did purchase post 1.25 update. This video is really just a fun excuse to weigh the radios. They’re all so lightweight and great for POTA/SOTA!

I always pack too much for SOTA but I feel like I need a backup for everything just in case. I need to order a KH1 at some point. I am still learning the KX2 and love that rig so far. I need to weigh it and see where it falls.
@Utahforrest3 ай бұрын
+1! I think my KH1 will always come with me as the back up because it’s all-in-one and lightweight . (Hard to forget something for it!) my first SOTA I literally forgot my QMX battery and had the mountain topper and 12v battery as backup. Saved me.

The KX2 is the closest radio on the market to the KH1. The KH1 was in fact inspired by the KX2 per the creator. Our deal still stands. The day you order a KH1 I’ll order the KX2. It can be a Christmas present to each other. (One of those secret Santa ones so we don’t have to tell our wives.)
