As a professional farmer that specifically loves to grow potatoes, the potatoes aren't ready to come up until the entire plant has died. Also, the production of potatoes is completely independent of the flowers/seeds. Potatoes themselves aren't in fact seeds, they're tubers, they propagate themselves from root.

@@planterpot4627 So, I agree that the plant may not have ever been produced because of the pest problem. That being said potatoes don't need to have flowers to make tubers, and the plant isn't ready to be pulled until the tops die. I believe you know most of that just clarifying for anyone else who may see the comments and not know.

When do I stop watering them? They have finished flowering, but the green plants still look healthy. Been doing the research, but still not too sure. The plants haven’t turned yellow yet, but will they even turn yellow if I’m keeping the water up to them?

If you do potatoes again remove all eyes but one to get bigger (but not as many) potatoes(keep all eyes on for LOTS of tiny potatoes). For good potato growing use lots of compost, don't overload with any nitrogen fertilizer(gives lots of leaves), your plant threw A LOT of its energy into leaf production and did nothing for the roots. Use a phosphorus rich fertilizer (for root growth) and potassium (for overall plant health). Even if you don't fertilize with anything top it with compost every couple weeks and it'll do great! Mainly just use lots of compost ^_^ PLZ try potato again, would love to see if this helps!

We found this out; the foilage must die before you dig them. The first year we planted potatoes, we only had tiny potatoes because we dug them while the foilage was green. The next year we waited until the foilage almost completely died back before digging and we had a very good harvest. Patience is key.

@MawcDrums
@MawcDrums 2 жыл бұрын
While this is true it's not always advisable (from a dorky gardening standpoint) because many of the varieties we find in the grocery store are not true-to-seed, and are hybrid varieties that require two separate parents to produce the fruit you have in your hand. So by growing those seeds you're playing the genetic lottery and the chances of it being exactly like what you bought from the store are slim to none
@MawcDrums

@zxc that doesn't always matter, most commercial growers grow hybrid varieties for their disease resistance and increased yields.

I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days. Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians. And I know that the record which I make is true; and I make it with mine own hand; and I make it according to my knowledge". 1 Nephi 1-3 Hello friends, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The verses above are the first three verses in The Book of Mormon. I know this probably isn't the most ideal place to talk about religion but I really do want you to know that God loves you. You may not love Him or care about Him at all, but He still will continue to love you. You are a beloved son or daughter of God. He knows you personally and He truly and deeply desires for your happiness. He loves everyone who has every lived on this earth, with a perfect equal love regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, faith and values and beliefs. The Lord loves you more than you can think or comprehend. "He inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile" 2 Nephi. He is our loving, caring Heavenly Father. We are literally His children and creations. When we were in the womb, he knew about us" Jerimiah 4:5. He knitted us and we were created in His image. I testify to you that you and I are not a mistake. He knows the very moment when we stand and when we sit. He is familiar with all our ways and knows us personally who we are. The hairs on our very head are numbered. God loved us so much, He sent His Only Begotten Son for us, that we may be able to return and dwell in the presence of God again. The Lord has not forgotten about us even when it feels like He has. He will never forsake us. When we are happy, He and His angels rejoice alongside us. When we are sad, He heals us and lifts us up from our trials. He has always been there for us. He has always been our loving, compassionate Heavenly Father and God. Will we always be His children and people? I testify to you that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ. Both love you exceedingly and rejoice when you are happy. They both love you so much. They love you with a love unfeigned. They will never ever stop doing good unto you. I know that The Book of Mormon is true. "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost". Moroni 10:4 I promise and testify to you, that if you will read The Book of Mormon, ponder on its message and ask God if it is not true, you will come to know of its truthfulness, whether its true or not true. Remember my friends that God loves you with all his heart, might mind, soul and strength. He wants you to be happy. He knows what you are going through and dealing with right now. He desires for you to return back to Him. Unfortunately, He has been misrepresented and seen as a cruel and angry God who anticipates for us to slip and writes down every mistake we make waiting to punish us by those who do not know or know Him fully. My friends, God has stored many opportunities and blessings for you. He is incredibly eager and desires with all His heart to bless you abundantly. He wants you to live with Him again. He only wants the best for you and your well being. He wants to experience everlasting joy and indescribable happiness in this life and in the life to come. He wants you to partake of His goodness and come and follow Him. The Lord does not care how early or late you decide to come unto Him. I testify to you that if you have strayed and wondered off the path that there is hope in Jesus Christ, The Savior of the world. The Lord accepts those who come unto Him whether your early, late or just in time who desire to change. The Lord will accept you wholeheartedly and forgive you if you are willing to change. The Lord will welcome you and will always be ready to embrace you with open arms. The Lord will lift us up in our trials and use us to bless the lives of those around us if we are willing to change. If you desire to learn more, you are always welcome to visit comeuntochrist.org. There you will learn more about The Church of Jesus Christ and our core beliefs and values. If you have taken the time to read The Book of Mormon and this comment, thank you. It takes a huge leap of faith and a lot of courage to muster enough faith to read in the Book of Mormon and to believe in something in a personage that you may never see in this lifetime. Although we may not be able to see God and Jesus Christ in this life, I testify to you that they are real. They do truly exist. I promise you that if you will pray to know of their existence, you will come to know whether they exist or have been made up. You are my friends. The Lord loves you and despite all our weaknesses and shortcomings, he still loves us and will forgive us if we will humble ourselves before Him and diligently seek correction and do whatever is needed to repent. Remember that The Lord is always available to talk to through prayer 24/7. No question sounds too silly for Him. James wrote, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him" James 1:5. If you must know whether or not something is true or evil and deceptive, you can always pray to God. He will help you know what the truth is and what is not the truth. He will never be too busy to talk to. He will give you strength you need to overcome and conquer your temptations and will give you the strength you need to endure through your trials and afflictions. Paul said that The Lord will not give you temptations that you cannot resist, but that in your temptations, He will provide a way for you to resist, overcome and conquer them. He will provide a way. He wants to bless you and reward you abundantly. The Lord knows you and will not forget you. You are loved. You are utterly amazing. You have incredible potential. You are not forgotten or ever will be forsaken. You are special. You are unique. You are one of a kind. You have been reserved for this time and The Lord needs you on His side. It simply would not be the same without you. That's just how much the Lord need you on His side. Thank you for your time.

question was it the size of the dirt bed that made them came out so small? or does it have to do with nutrients in the ground ?

It’s the timing he picked them, usually you’d pick the potatoes when the whole plant dies

3 months should be enough for most potatoes to produce a decent harvest, but some can take longer. I have no idea what type of potato this was i just found it sprouted in my fridge. But as you can see at 0:49 a lot of the plant gets eaten up by fungus gnat larvae. That probably had some impact on the harvest. I have grown potatoes in buckets before and those have produced a proper amount of good size potatoes.

Why would you want all of that information..😆😆😆 You want to grow three tiny potatoes..😆😆😆 So many easy ways to grow potatoes..so many cool and cheap an effective ways to do it..You can get used tires..One tire fill the center with potting soil..And take a potatoe that has been in the dark for a while as has some eyes on it..Put it in the potting soil...When you see a green leaf pop out of the potting soil..cover with more potting soil...And when green shows up again..keep doing it little by little..eventually you will be able to out another tire on top..And add a little soil here and there..Or you don't even have to use soil at that point..you could use leaves or even hay..pine straw..ect..Just cover the green...And Build that baby up little by little..And eventually you let a little green pop out so you can see when it's gonna get ready to die..and eventually it will change color and die...When it dies..you lift a tire off..And dust the soil off and easily pull potatoes and.lift the other tire off...When you have picked potatoes..take the last one and leave in a dark area until it gets eyes and repeat..I dont get no special fertilizer...no special treatments..just some sun and some water..That's it..And the potatoes grow fast and plenty..All sizes..

In 90 days I got lot of medium sized potatoes even without fertilizers, no pesticide but regular irrigation. The thing is, I cut the sprouted potatoes in which every piece had an eye and placed them each at one feet apart. Most of them became plants and we got a sack full of potatoes with a land size that of a small bedroom say 10 by 12 feet. Had I waited more, I could have gotten 50% more yield. Moreover rats stole 20% of my potatoes.

i had planted potatoes for the very first time this year a month or two or so ago, may be more maybe less, but masha allah did i get a good harvest for the very first try. as a child i couldnt hold my excitement and so i dug them out, today in fact, and have some big ones about 10cm more or less. it was in a tiny pot so i reckon that may be why there were many small ones and another reason may be because i either waited too early or too late. i have two pots in which i planted potatoes in. they were i rekon maybe a week apart but i soon started to notice changes even though they were in the same area. the first one which had beautiful leaves had started to thrive and then later die whilst the newer one was just thriving. i then noticed a new sprout after the last remaining 'elders' of the previous generation of leaves and plants died in the first one and now today i dug them out. I was pretty suprised and it exceeded my moms expectations which was good news since she had experience in gardening whilst i didnt. i still havent taken the newer or the second pot and dumped it as its plants were still thriving like before and still are. i have planned to dig them out at the end of this month to give it more time. however i can already see some areas where you can see exposed potaoes and they look quite big, maybe even more than 10cm but idk what i should do with them exposed. wish me a good harvest and to those skilled potato planters please give me advice on what i should do to the exposed potatoes or at least just their heads.

I did the same thing as you, but in potato bags. The first one I opened was EXACTLY the same as your video- 1 potato the size of a marble after like 4 months. I left the other 2bags alone and a month later I got about 6 potatoes the size of a golf ball. So I’m leaving the last bag for another month to see if that one does any better and next yr I’ll try to do it right

Very impressive, a lot of hard work I'm sure went into this. This is the type of stuff that's so interesting to me. Also this can encourage new people to get in to farming. Potatoes are really this simple, easiest crop to grow, also cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, and corn are great beginner plants.

I would disagree. I can’t grow cucumbers, they just don’t grow. Tomatoes are also pretty crazy, they have tiny thin leaves and produce flowers and very few tomatoes, tomatoes also go crazily leggy. Discourages me a lot.

@@toysforeva Do you make sure to "till" the dirt or fluff the dirt enough before putting your plants in the ground? The goal is to get all the hard topsoil 1-1.5 foot deep down and then break that soul up till it's fluffy. You can do it with a shovel and hoe if that's all you have. This is crucial for the new plant throughout the beginning stage of growth. Till the topsoil, put plant in the ground, water, fertilize. Don't give up, do research and tips/tricks and you will quickly learn. One of the best ways is to go to the local greenhouse and ask the local people for tips. Tomatoes can be a real PITA to grow.

@@johndoe3johndoe382 hahahah tomatoes pita LOL Thank you for the advice ❤️💐 I have some success, for example when I didn't have a yard, I managed to regrow a pineapple from a top, that I bought in the store - in a pot!!! I remember coming from work and cutting it one beautiful evening. It was much smaller than the store one. But it was so warm from sunset rays, and so sweet, like honey, that I will remember this pineapple till I my last day. It was incredible. I don't know how I did that, I could never repeat my success 😁 Last year I had a watermelon volunteer plant. I dig my veggie scraps directly into the soil, I don't want to have a compost spot, so I just go around the backyard and pick a spot, and bury it there. Last year I had a watermelon that actually produced a fruit of 4 lb approximately. But it was 0 effort from me. It grew from a compost bury spot so to say, haha Well looks like accidents are better for me than directed effort LOL
