Potatoes were small because your soil needed to be enriched with more phosphorous and less nitrogen (which is why you had an abundance of leaves). Also potatoes need a lot more water.

@@nobodynowhere8061 you get more leaf production. Nitrogen will cause the plant to use most of its energy to produce leaves rather than producing the potatoes.
@samm8250
@samm8250 Жыл бұрын
@crositosecacc1456 on all plant fertilizers you'll see 3 numbers separated by dashes. These correspond to N-P-K ratios. P is for phosphorus content. If the P ratio is higher than N and K that would be best for potatoes. If your fertilizer is limited on P, you can always amend with Bone Meal or Seabird Guano. I usually buy a general all purpose fertilizer (e.g. Down to Earth) and just add a bit more Bone Meal or Guano to grow more/larger spuds.

Ironically, putting them in the fridge is what causes them to go crazy like that. They think it's winter, so they get ready. When you pull them out, and the temperature goes up 35° in an instant, they think they're late, so they explode.

Nice try, for next time, remember to add water and give them tomato fertilizer. Give them nitrogen in early growth stages, then phlorophus in the later stages of growth. Also, make sure to give them plenty of soil and natural soil. The ones that are in your backyard as well and not harvesting them until the whole plant has completely died. I also recommend planting two potato seedlings together, which can help increase yield and productivity in your plants. As a farmer, I know that potatoes are resilient. They help each other grow and, through their roots, they give nutrients to each other of necessary like trees do. Give them plenty of room to grow. Also, potatoes love pruning of the bottom leaves and soil on the top of the places you prune your leaves. If you try this, you will have a better harvest. Best regards and good job on your harvest; Sincerely, The Word

Yeah, i have a huge space dedicated for sweet potatos, my soil was already very rich since i throw organic trash like egg shells or remains of fruits and vegetables, i also burn my other trees branches when they are too big near it. Its very humid in the backyard and i had a space of like 15 cubic meter for those potatos, left it without even maintaining it for almost an year and when i went to harvest it theres was 50 kilos of sweet potatoes. It only started with a few small plants that divide even more, there was also beautiful flowers almost all year

This is a very good experiment. Showing others what will happen if you grow potatoes like other plants. And fyi, contrary to what others say, you dont need a lot of water, you need the right soil/nutrients and enough mulch to prevent the moisture from leaving. I live in AZ and only watered my potatoes 1x a week during the summer. I had the right soil and enough mulch to insulate the ryzomes. If this person did too little water, the plant would've died. It just wasnt enough nutrients to supply the next generation. If you want healthy babies, you have to give the mama all the nutrients first. That is life.

It’s a nightmare to find in the forgotten corner of the pantry lol. I have a bag of potatoes that are a bit too sprouted to eat, tempted to just bury them I. My backyard and see what happens

This is a cool video but you gotta let the potatoes grow. You harvested when they were just about to get some size to them.( leaves should be dead before digging). And they need more space to grow but the concept of the video is awesome!

This makes me think of the many times I found potatoes growing little stems. Now I imagine if I had let the potatos be I would have had a farm by now😂

You forgot the most important. once the shoots are about 23cm tall, draw soil up around them to form a ridge along the row, leaving just the top 10cm of the plants visible

Let the leaves die off. It's easier to grow potatoes in a mixture of soil and straw(not hay) in a well drained bucket with good drainage holes or chicken wire cages😊

A couple of things you did incorrectly. 1. Buried the seed potato too deep 2. Picked the new potatoes too early ( the stalks weren’t yellowing of) 3. Buried potato on edge not in centre 4. Didn’t feed / fertilise Your yield would’ve been amazing if you followed above points. Better luck next time ✌️
