Every year we plant Kennebec potatoes in grow bags that we've bought from Amazon. This has been the most effective method for us to grow potatoes because it keeps the soil light and moist and allows us to plant more without tilling up more ground. This year's harvest was possibly our best yet as we harvested close to 50 pounds of beautiful potatoes

I need to buy some 15 gallon grow bags. My 10 gallons just don't cut it. And I'm buying better seed potatoes next year. Homegrown taters are the best!

I do think 15 gallon bags are better for growing them as well but the 10's we planted did better than they had been doing.....but yes these dang potatoes are so good its well worth growing every year

It's called solanine, which is poisonous. You should not eat.the green potatoes, but use them for seed. Great crop, though.

What a great harvest! I tried Kennebec this year, in 10 gal grow bags. A total of 12 bags, all i got was 1 potato! What's your secret? I can't figure out what I did wrong. Please help.

Thats a tough one. There are a few things that could have went wrong. The first thing i would go to is fertilization. Potatoes (any root crop really) needs 1 part nitrogen to 2 parts phosphorus and potassium. We try to keep it simple and just say double the amount of phosphorus and potassium. Too much nitrogen and not enough phosphorus and potassium will result in good looking plants with very little in the way of potatoes in the soil.
