Those came out pretty clean and a nice size. I won't bother about mine until the end of July. The first run of decent days after April Fools' Day is my planting time for spuds. We can get a hard frost until the 10th of May here. I lost everything to dodgy manure last year. 200 seed potatoes in 20 drills, just wiped out. That put me off making videos because it would have just been me whining about manure in every video. This year, I'm just too busy to upload anything. I have my own two plots, and sixteen 40x4ft beds for the local foodbank to deal with. Two new polies going up for that as well, if it ever stops raining here. Similar to leaf mould, rotted woodchips create great compost. Any woodchips will essentially disappear in five years up here in the northwest of Ireland. Leaving a rich compost behind. I used woodchips, from a lady who keeps chickens. Why she wasn't composting it herself, I will never know. That went right into the composters, and was spread back in Feb. All my beds got a 1.5-2" layers of compost made from all sorts as I cleared what was the site dumping ground. Haven't needed to use any manure, or other fertilizers. I'd just throw that spent compost on my beds. Unless the composting bays are nearer. Either way, it's not going to do any harm.

It will all go into the raised beds, they always need topping up. Shame about the manure, Amino-pyralids I suspect! it needs banning completely, we don't need weed killers or pesticides, just garden to cope with the problems nature throws at us.

@@AlmostOrganicDorset I wouldn't wish it on anybody, man. Better to just make as much compost as you can, and build up the soil. Unless you know the farmer, or horse owner, well.

did you start with one seed potatoe for every bucket?
@AlmostOrganicDorset Жыл бұрын
Four small potatoes per bucket with earlies, two for main crop.

How do you do that. Mine produced zero spuds. Followed all instructions, and the only thing in the pots were the spent seeded tubers. £200 it cost for the seed potatoes, tubs, compost, feed, my own compost too, in a sheltered, sunny spot, lots of green healthy foliage, yet no spuds. The easiest thing in the world to grow, but not for me. What did I do wrong?

Oh dear, all i used this year was some 4 year old composted woodchip, some fish, blood and bone and a handful of wood ash. Plenty of water to get them going, then ease off.

😢 could be too much nitrogen at the wrong time, not enough water and too much heat
