There is 1 small hack with Fuji cameras you should try. If you wanna get a higher dynamic range without shooting F-Log, there is an option in the menu called DYNAMIC RANGE. The default option is DR100, but you can change it to DR200 or DR400. What it basically does is that it allows your highlights to be properly exposed but the camera internally raises the shadows by 1 (DR200) or 2 (DR400) stops. In that way, you can get any film simulation look with higher DR and it really works. Not a bad thing if you need to have a quick turnaround, you are time-constrained or simply want to avoid shooting log for any reason.

The dynamic range setting doesn't raise the shadows. Fuji cameras have dual analog gain circuits to give them dual native ISO. When the dynamic range setting is off, the camera only uses the gain circuit that drives it's respective ISO range. When it's enabled, the camera uses both gain circuits in tandem to pull more range out of the highlights. You have to shoot at a minimum ISO to get the full effect with DR 400 (on the XT4 it's ISO 640), so it can be somewhat limiting. It also works with F-LOG AFAIK, giving it even more dynamic range. The one caveat is that the camera decides when to actually apply the effect. It will automatically decide based on the image if it needs the extra dynamic range or not. The X-H2 and X-H2s has really good auto focus but it takes some tweaking in the settings depending on the situation and subject movement, all this can be stored to the C1-C7 for different situations. I have full custom focus setting on all of them and I almost never miss focus.

Frank says you need a Nikon guy and I've told you at least twice in person that I 100% want to do a video with my Z9 with you guys. I've finally got it fully built out for video and it's completely mind-blowing what it can do. I love it more every single day. I doubt I'd be able to fully convert y'all but Nikon's video is now just as good as any other mirrorless system out there.

Heeey ! Loved that you're finally discovering all the Fuji Funsies ! I've been shooting with them since 2016 (after a few years on Canon), and have never looked back ever since I tried my tiny little X-T10 ! The film sims are definitely one of the big reasons why their cameras get such a loyal fanbase, but there are so much more to them ! If you want to discover them in more details, Omar Gonzalez and Pal2tech channels are great to dig deeper (and they're funny as heck !). If you want to know more about the video side of things, Palle Schultz is great too (and pretty damn funny too).

My cousin is a professional photographer, he specializes in underwater beach and surf photography and he loves his Fuji cameras, I could just never bring my self to go with Fuji as the canon autofocus and full frame system just made more sense but after seeing this I think i might pick up a Fuji

hey superstar Mark Rober did a video about a drone being used to deliver medical supplies - and one of the things it that video was how silent the drone was. Might be a connection for you to look into maybe using. The propellers were really different ... watch it and enjoy regardless. It was in the last 2 weeks, so should be easy to find. And the primary use of it is exceptionally valuable, delivering medical supplies somewhere in Africa. Anyone else out there, that drone thing is pretty cool - maybe spur some ideas for people doing film work with heavier gear or something.

Looking to upgrade my rig… I’m Between Sony A7iv and XH2s BUT my main concern is AF reliability… I shoot fast movement video (music video, doc, adv and some family stuff) and I’m solo filmmaker Also, I hybrid shooter so FX3-30 not in my list What’s your opinion on that? @@thanoskaza A7iv af & af tracking is best in the game. If you're going to deal with alot of fast moving subjects I'd go with the Sony. My guess is that Fujifilm is 9/10 while Sony is 9.9/10 rating for af and af tracking.

I got into Fujifilm last year with GFX 100s medium format and the rendering is just insane. Then i wanted a smaller camera and decided to try Fujifilm XH2 40mp cropped sensor. Images are great but the display playback took 2-3 seconds to show up on the screen. Just too slow for me since I’m used to a quick preview on my Nikon Z9. Return it and got Fujifilmm XH2s, faster preview w stack sensor and video centric versus xh2. I was contemplating why I need another video centric camera since my Z9 has better video capabilities but the XH2s body and lens are just way lighter to carry around. Plus film simulation options are great for those quick non high production shoots. Love my Z9 for both stills and video work so please do a review on the Z9 soon. Aloha!

Damn you screwed up. It took 2-3 seconds becuase you probably had a bunch of settings on that make the image render. Do the same thing to the xh2s and it will also take 3 seconds. Adding things like clarity etc that slow the camera down. Switch the drive mode and it cuts settings that slow the camera down

I've had this camera since it came out and it's OK. My biggest issues: - Way too sharp, even at -4. - AF is not great compared to Sony. Fine for interviews with only one subject and another camera angle in case it freaks out, but no touch-to-track sucks. - Not enough video tools. It needs a better exposure tool (false color or waveform). Shutter angle and LUT preview would be nice as well. - Manual focus on Fuji lenses (33 1.4, 18 1.4) sucks - as in, they don't focus smoothly. They almost jump from point to point as you turn the focus ring. This is the biggest issue and why it would be tough for me to recommend the camera for video. There are better options if you want good AF (Sony, Canon, even Panasonic it seems) and also better options if you're going to manual focus (Blackmagic, Panasonic).

Funny how Fuji is so slow to implement things like rotation direction and angle for manual focus like Panasonic does. If we can simply adjust a mouse sensitivity, I'm pretty sure the sensors for manual focusing in the lens works similarly. Linear manual focusing behaves very weirdly too. It is too fast on native lenses (mfd -> infinity in like 10 degrees), but on the Tamron 17-70, my focus throw is >720 degrees. Totally unusable.

Not really, the X-Trans has 55% greens (5 out of 9 are green), while a Bayer has 50% greens. So not too much of a difference.
