As of uploading, I'm still on Beta Firmware so it's still buggy but will update this after i get the production firmware. The preproduction version is actually decently stable as long as I'm just recording and not switching constantly between different modes and settings. But I did find myself needing to reboot it pretty regularly during testing where I'm flipping through different modes constantly. Also, the false color references the LUT and not totally reliable in LOG so that's something I'd like to see adjusted. In the meantime, waveform is fine. I was also getting a ton of banding but only in premiere. I tried adjusting premiere settings but couldn't figure out why it looks so much cleaner when i export the same ProRes Files with the same LUT through Davinci.... This just makes me want to make the switch to Davinci that much more.... But overall I'm liking the specs, versatility, and the image. So I think the firmware is what's going to make or break this camera for me. Let me know if you want me to check for anything specific.

I like how kinefinity does maximum frame-rates. Instead of arbitrarily limiting you to, say 60fps when the camera is perfectly capable of doing 71fps simply because its unconventional, they just let you shoot at maximum if you want! I wish other camera companies did that!
@TechnoBabble2 жыл бұрын
The main reason this isn't done in a lot of lower end cameras or physically smaller cameras is because it requires the use of powerful FPGAs or general purpose processors. Most consumer cameras and cameras that are not designed for "cinema" use tend to use fixed function processors that are designed to only do certain framerates or resolutions.

Kinifinity certainly has the image quality nailed. They aren’t trying to look like a $25k RED camera, they’re going straight after the $90k ARRI image. The issue is what you get for the money. Lots of people on Facebook groups saying it needs to be $8k ish to compete with other cameras.

@loudandclearmedia2 жыл бұрын
Cameras like this raise the bar for the competition. Especially when that RAW update comes, you essentially have a high framerate Komodo for half the price of a VRaptor. Yes, I know there are plenty of other differences, but the dual media recording, electronic ND and that feature to let you move the highlight/shadow latitude are all really useful and make this camera quite fairly priced.
@VinceCheong2 жыл бұрын
Shifting the highlight stops has always been available on their older camera models, makes life a tad bit easier without going down the EI path haha. I’m finally excited with their built in ND and dual recording media!

A7s3 looks so digital
@JeremiahBostwick2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the A7S3 has internal processing that can't be turned off. However the FX6, using the same sensor, can turn off all of the internal processing options. I think Philip Blooms reviews on it show this well. The FX6 looks much more organic. I'd also point out, it's a comparison between a $3500 mirrorless camera and a $10,000 cinema camera. In light of that, I would say the A7S3 holds up incredibly well. I wouldn't 'recommend' it as primary camera for a feature film, but certainly it has it's place for docs and as a B/C/D Cam when used with other Sony cameras or as a crash/drone cam for productions where they can't afford something bigger and more expensive.

@JeremiahBostwick2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to know what colors looks like without knowing what was done in post. And I'd say that for any camera review. Most people making reviews are grading into looks they like. And indeed any color can look like anything in post. So all that said, I wouldn't judge 'what you think the color' is like based on this video or any review video for that matter. I'd rent and test first.

Excited to try this one out, would love to see how this compares to a RED Komodo, especially on the blue channel for bluescreens Although the image might look very similar to an A73, the Kinefinity definitely have some advantages, having the ability to shoot 12-bit is huge, the built-in ND's can be a life saver sometimes & obviously the capability of shooting an uncompressed RAW image. There is some weird fringing when you were doing the comparisons, but most likely it is just the lens. Would have preferred if they went with a global shutter considering you're paying around $10k for it. Loved the video!

Can keep proper exposure by setting the variable ND on Auto (like the FX6) so that proper exposure is kept by the ND automatically adjusting to the light conditions, instead of having to use auto ISO or auto Iris?

I like the Movcam hot swap battery box base. The 8K model of the edge camera was released a couple of months back, but the reviews have been kinda mixed for that camera. Hopefully you were able to fly today man! Clear skies hopefully? But I had a question. How do you feel the mavo camera fits in todays ecosystem of cameras? With cameras like the Komodo, c70 and fx3. Granted it does have a larger sensor and larger resolution than most cameras, but it seems priced a bit steep. I get the professional world in all but what would make this stand out against something like the komodo?

This reminds me of the Digital Bolex. It's a great camera at the wrong time. 5 years ago this would have been competitive. Today you could buy two Canon R5Cs for the price of one of these.
@jordanwright57952 жыл бұрын
I own the R5C and C70 as a B-cam’s to my Komodo and Gemini. I have also owned the Kinefinity Terra 6k and the Edge. I love Canon colors but if this new camera is anything like Kinefinitys past cameras there is no way my R5C can come close to the dynamic range or latitude that the Kinefinity offers. There’s also something hard to define about the Kinefinity’s image and motion cadence that’s just more “filmic” than anything that Canon, Sony or even Red for that matter offers. If your doing run and gun and need the DPAF on R5C then that’s understandable but for narrative or high end commercial this camera is an excellent value and performs closer to the look of an Arri then anything else within its price range IMO…
