It's like nobody truly understood how incredibly broken the Mongols horsemen were in real life. They conquered most of Asia and it was actually the brothers fighting after gengis died that prevented them from making it into true history books as a massive empire. They would have stomped the polish if Ghengis hadn't died and the empire fractured from the infighting

Lots of factors to consider when making that choice, the effort needed to spread the religion can be quite a resource drain, but a good religion is very helpful. In this case i don't think he would have been able to spread his religion as fast as he conquered land. (Spain's conquistadors convert cities when they take them so spain using a religion to aid loyalty when conquering is a good strat)

Aluminum-guy who discovered it wanted to call it alumium. He then changed his mind decided to call it Aluminum (the name used in America). Then someone in Britain decided that elements needed to end in “ium” and called it aluminium. So it’s correctly aluminum, but the British empire spread the wrong name aluminium to most of its empire.

What I tend to do as Genghis is to smash down early civs to a non-coastal secondary city (taking their initial capitals is always my goal) then leave them locked in place by my conquered cities essentially turning them into city-states is in a world dominated by my civ. I then just play out the game being the sole builder of wonders, being hundreds of years ahead in tech and culture and absorbing all available gold in the world via trades with the various civs.

Mongolia is super strong, I don't think many players understand how good that diplo visibility skill is. Most definitely don't realize how powerful the Mongols were under Khan. The only reason we don't really hear about the Mongol Empire is because as soon as he passed the Empire onto his children they all went at each other's throats so it was a very short lived but quite massive empire. You should look how he took over most of Asia. He took out western Russia, down through Georgia, up to the Mediterranean, was working on wiping the Turkey area and passed away. The only thing that stopped them was the infighting caused through greed and stupidity. If they had stayed united instead of power hungry we would have truly seen the power of the Mongols

you say it should be looked at in the balance department, but it looks like the real reason domination was so easy wasn't because 'mongol so broken!', it was because you got the great campuses and a huge tech lead. it's both aluminium and aluminum. the guy who invented it called it aluminum first, but then changed it to aluminium. he was british, so the brits took the newer version, but the scientific papers had already been printed in america. both are valid.

It's actually Aluminium, but a typo somewhere along the line led to it being spelled Aluminum here in the US

I really like your Civ videos. And this is despite the my reflexive and utter loathing of being called a 'spuddie'.

Point out to me the "mini" in Al-u-min-um. Yes I am from the U.S. i heard that the metal was supposed to be called Aluminium, but a typo in a newspaper way back caused it to be Aluminum. Love your videos though, keep it up!

It should absolutely be "alu-min-ee-um". It doesn't make sense the way that we Americans say it.

Btw Potato dunno if you know, but land units attacking from ships don't get penalized and do full damage as if on land. :) Just a nice little mechanic I recently found out with Victoria. ^^
