OH I GET IT!! The reason is that since they are in Davy Jones Locker, which is the bottom of the ocean, that means they are essentially sailing upside down, so if they "sink" the ship, it will technically sink right back to the surface! Jack Sparrow you are a MAD GENIUS!

For those who don't know: the point of rocking the ship and turn it upside down was because they were in Davy Jones locker and they needed to get out. So when its sun down in the locker its sun up in the reel world.

Think of it as the two sides of a mirror...if you do something on one side of the mirror, on the other side you will be doing it backwards...so, if you do it backwards, on the other side, you are doing it the right way...hope this helps a little

@johootly they were still in davy jones's locker, and if they didnt make it back by sunset they would be stuck there forever. using the charts, jack figured it out that the only way to get out (becasue that was an endless see) was to turn the ship upside down, thus getting everyone to rock the ship. the flash of green meant that a sould came back to life from being dead (jack)

apparently, davy jone's locker is an alternate dimension that can only be reached when the correct conditions occur, namely having the ship be upside down at sunset, so that the ship will be right side up at sunrise and vise versa
