Good to know! I have the extended warranty this year, and was thinking about the Weiser Tech option (having ridden out with a bunch of other GS1250 owners for the first time last week and seen the issue from a ‘third party’ perspective now) I had no idea how illegible the multifunction lights and indicators were out in the real world… looks like the 911 option is the way to go. Thanks for the video.

Don’t be put off getting some mate, if you buy them from BMW and have them fitted by them then they’ll give you a warranty. Mine were fitted by someone more qualified but because BMW didn’t get their mark up on the product and fitting they won’t give me the warranty. Disgusting to be honest. Mark who owns Weiser is good friends with the guy who fitted mine and sells hundreds to him but it’s a financial thing in my opinion.

Too much unreliable electronic tech on bikes these days, manufacturers only allow their own mods to electronics as they have tested those to ensure they work and will not affect the standard electronic system. Aftermarket parts may not have same impedances etc so could upset things like the ecu. Just wish they would charge less for manufacturer upgrades

You can now turn the rear multifunction brake lights off with the Hex GS911 and although the software is currently only available to Beta testing users, it should be in the next update for all users. You have the option to have just rear indicators or you can have marker lights and indicators. I did this but ended up buying the Weiser Technik wizard modules so that the brake lights function but turn off when the indicator is on. I also coded the centre light to work as a day time run light. Its not as good as the setup that you have which is extremely bright and a great option for anyone that doesnt have front spots.

This is frustrating, they are going to huge extends to protect themselves of people doing homemade stuff on the bikes. I will be not surprised if they do that even for a tiniest insignificant upgrade. And the bike itself coasts a lot of money in the first place. My brother had two of the GS series, he was frustrated too and exchanged his latest bike for a Super Tenere 1200.

To be fair to the lad I spoke to he said don’t pay for something they won’t pay out on and he did check with the ‘underwriters’ but they flat refused unless I did the things I mentioned in the video. My biggest concern Is other people who’ve had the same items fitted on their new ones or nearly new ones mate. That will surely void whatever they have left on their new or under 3 year old bikes. They plug into a hex ezCAN that plug straight into the bike with no alterations to the loom/electrical circuit. Remember some years ago insurance companies would refer to upgrading brakes and brake lines as a modification, which clearly made the bike safer, but they would not insure them. If your thinking of taking BMW extended warranty dont i bought it and when the paperwork arrived it tells you more about what it doesn't cover than what it does. The extended warranty is not bmw its a insurance company and as far as that goes is the answer. We all know insurance companies will wriggle out of anything they can. Just add recovery to the bike insurance to get it to a trusted dealer or independent bmw shop. If you do buy it read the paperwork and you can still cancel it within a time period can't remember how long you get.

I bought it and just renewed it for another year - last year I had a new ESA rear shock and a new "whiz wheel" - just called at dealer, said can you look at this and in 5 mins parts ordered and fitted within 3/4 days in each case so for me its worth it - I do 20k plus miles year mostly in Europe and have seen the recovery work seamlessly for a mate who after a low speed drop broke an ankle - bike was home before him. It's not for everyone I know but worth the peace of mind in my case. Had things been different or had a bad experience I would not have renewed either.

When I lived in Germany up to 3 years ago, we weren't allowed to fit after-market accessories or modifications unless they were from the bike manufacturer and approved by them. If you fitted say some ebay special fog lights or bar risers, the bike would fail the annual TÜV which is the same as the mot here. Also the parts would make the insurance void. Apparently it's not changed there and I've heard that the same rules are coming to the UK soon. Yet another little tool for them to get us all off the road and end our personal transport independence.

I don't know, last year, I installed myself a 3rd party cruise control system on my previous v strom 650. Then my dealer made an appointment with a DEKRA engineer who came, inspected the system and gave me the approval. Got an official paper and entry into the vehicle registration, making the bike legal for both TÜV and insurance. The whole process costed me 50 euros if I remember correctly and it was a one day job. And as far as I know, in Germany, if a part has an ABE certificate it's legal to install, regardless who manufactured it. I get this means one cannot install any Chinese bit from ebay but until now I was able to find a legal option for anything I wanted to have on my bikes. Only downside is they are a bit more expensive than the cheapest options out there but not by much.

Not too long ago I think it was illegal in the UK to have indicators permanently on (might be wrong) but it was an issue with vehicles imported for the USA. I'm wondering if this is an EU thing that BMW has imposed on the UK market to simplify production requirements. Interestingly, Honda are doing the same. Their upside down indicators/horn switch is bad enough without confusing other road users with daft light shows!

The 3 year BMW factory warranty and the extended warranty are 2 different things, the latter is effectively just an insurance policy to give you peace of mind if anything goes wrong (with some exclusions). Personally I don't bother with the extended warranty as I think it's far too expensive. If my bike does let me down I'll be having the conversation with my main dealer as if it's a known fault BMW will very often make a goodwill gesture towards the repair. If my bike was still on a PCP but out of warranty I wouldn't pay to have a warranty on a bike that I didn't own. You could look at the options to see if there's other warranties out there that suit your needs and your pocket.

This idea of all the rear lighting through the indicators, is the most ridiculous, Dangerous idea ever! Following some of my mates with the standard BMW lighting, it's more often than not you have NO idea if they're indicating, even braking sometimes. As to the front having the indicators illuminated orange, well, the designer should be £%#@£!!! Orange is a SIDE marker, of course at a glance, people at junctions see it as you're indicating. I have no idea what possessed BMW to do this & worse still. How did this pass the British Safety Standards? Mind you, the tiny indicators on the back of some cars now, are the size of the LED, so when the car is braking, you never see the indicator on these also. But worse, as LED's are a bit directional (as opposed to a bulb with full vission from any angle), if your off to the side on a bend, you actually can't tell they're indicating, even without the brakes on. I think some British Safety Inspectors, could possibly be taking amazing summer holidays they can't actually afford, maybe??? That's my 2 penny worth rant over... 😂😂😂

@theblackcountrybiker I totally forgot to mention the warranty issue, you might have noticed I got caught up how daft these indicator lights are... oops!!!🤣😂🤣 So yes. The warranty, I would understand this, IF the bike management system threw up a fault. But as there is NO fault present, then BMW Should allow the extended warranty, its not like they don't know this system after all. Perhaps they are expecting the exhaust flapper valve or the shaft splines to fail soon & just want out? On my RS I made them change the flapper valve exhaust section, after my 4th fault for it (2019 bike) & I lubricated the splines myself, to play safe.

I think the issue here is that the extreme evos require modification of the existing wiring. Yes it’s just a T spike connector, but a hamfisted installer could cause issues that may not appear until some time later. However this should only affect those parts of the warranty that the indicator fitting has touched, not the entire extended warranty. As it happens I am picking up a bike with the same setup (not installed by me) so I have asked my dealer for an official response as logically how can I be offered an approved warranty from a bike bought from an approved BMW dealer with some items excluded? I shudder to think how much restoring the stock LED indicators would cost - it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they would charge for an entire wiring loom if the T spike connector on the Evo kit has caused any damage. This is why the Wizard modules are a better bet as they use the existing indicators and are completely and invisibly reversible.

Because I was honest mate when they asked. As they buy them themselves from Mark (Weiser) and sell them in their showrooms naively I didn’t think it would be an issue. Like I say I’m the video being honest isn’t always the best policy. BMW also make the plastics and lenses for them. Weiser put their LED’s in them. Never mind mate you live and learn. Thanks for watching and commenting👍🏻👍🏻 It may be worth sharing it so others know the potential fall out👍🏻👍🏻

@theblackcountrybiker the way the warranty works is you take the bike to a dealer with a fault, and he makes a warranty claim on your behalf. If the Weiser mods were material to the failure (extremely unlikely), then the warranty claim may be refused. If you declare stuff to some sales clerk then it's very easy for them with limited knowledge to raise issues.

I can't understand how so many people insist that BMWs are "The Best" when they treat customers like this. They're good bikes, albeit very expensive for what you get, but their attitude towards customers is getting almost as bad as Harley dealers. Not sure what the law is in the UK, but the best way I make myself be seen here in the USA is by simply putting 2 ultra-Bright Strobe lights like those you see on Bicycles to the bars of my Bike, or any creative place to be conspicuous. Just as you mentioned about the Frame rate of your video that makes your lights strobe, if they Strobed like that all the time, intersecting cars, cars pulling out of driveways, will pause and see the ultra Bright Strobes. Amazon sells these for $15-20-$30 bucks depending on the type.

@@theblackcountrybiker The issue most all the time is when car drivers say “I didn’t see the Motorcycle” they are actually telling the truth. I’m a retired Police Officer here in USA/NJ and all but not many motorcycle accidents I arrived to, the car simply said, “I didn’t see him” I’m 61 and been riding 40+ yrs, and my 2 present bike are a 2023 Triumph Rocket 3R and 2023 Ducati Monster SP, and when I ride either one, my Strobes get strapped on. Motorcycle heads lights just blend too much into the car lights at times, and all people see are the cars, and not the Bike. So you need something to distinguish your presence, hence the Strobes.

Too much unreliable electronic tech on bikes these days, manufacturers only allow their own mods to electronics as they have tested those to ensure they work and will not affect the standard electronic system. Aftermarket parts may not have same impedances etc so could upset things like the ecu. Just wish they would charge less for manufacturer upgrades.
